Not sure if im getting old and stupid or if I have an eyesight problem... but in the last several months I have run two people off the road because they were in a blind spot at the right rear corner of my truck.
The first incident I actually made contact (my tires vs his door) but the guy took off and never pulled over.
The last incident I was passing in the left lane and came back over to the right lane, cutting the guy off. He blew the horn and avoided contact, but obviously I felt like a fucking douchebag.
Im hoping I can put bigger better mirrors on my truck and possibly pull my head out of my ass at the same time before putting someone into a ditch.

    So... what mirrors do I need on a 2020 SR5 ?

    Thanks in advance !

I really liked the GM style tow mirrors, the lower convex got rid of the blind spot.

I would avoid tow mirrors. The only ones I have been able to find are not convex meaning you will have an even bigger blind spot on the passenger side. Buy a small stick on mirror for the passenger side mirror and see if that helps.

If you dont have something like a cap on the back, turn your head and check the blindspot. It aint rocket surgery.

Driving with your head out of your a$$ is probably a good idea ;)

Seriously though the size of your mirrors is not the problem, how they are adjusted is. The countermeasure of the shoulder check (as some suggested) is ultimately taught because of poor mirror adjustment. Is it effective?...yes, safe?..not as much. As a racing school instructor said to my class as we discussed mirror adjustment (where I learned the correct way to adjust mirrors, and yes I had been doing it wrong for a very long time) "Do you think driving down the road at highway speeds looking backwards is safe?" *insert cricket sounds here* "It doesn't seem safe to me!".

If you are like the vast majority of drivers you were taught to adjust your mirrors incorrectly and now you just set them up as you were taught. If you can see the side of your vehicle in the side view mirror it is wrong. Unfortunately this method of adjustment is perpetuated by many instructors, schools, parents and other drivers. No fault of their own. This is what they were taught so they pass it along. Another way to check is if you can see the same things in your side view mirror that are in your rear view mirror. If you can or there is significant overlap they are wrong. Which makes sense. Why do you need to see the same thing in two mirrors? The side view mirror field of view should start where your rear view mirror ends. For most this means rotating them out away from the vehicle a fair bit from where they are now. Takes a while to get used to. Now anything that is in the lane beside you on your rear flank will be visible. So in the case where you are being over taken by a vehicle coming up from behind, you will first see it in the rear view mirror. As it starts to pass you along the side it will move from the rear view to the side view mirror. Then as the rear of the vehicle leaves the side view mirror you will see the front off it in you peripheral vision. So if you can follow a vehicle in this manner then your mirrors are correctly adjusted. The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) also corroborates this perspective. Some very light internet searches and you can find a bunch of videos and visuals that show correct vs. incorrect adjustment.

Now all that said there are still several circumstances on the open road where a good old shoulder check is warranted (multi lane roadways, proximity to on ramps, etc). So I would not say that you never need to do a shoulder check. However, I will say that there is no such thing as a blind spot.

So long story short the type of mirrors you have are not the issue, adjustment and checking are. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

The GM style have pretty much eliminated rear blind spot for me which I love, but added a bigger forward one. sometimes they block a pedestrian or car to my left at a four way stop. I would highly recommend just adding one of the little round convex mirrors to stock for your situation.

3" stick on round blindspots, you will see everything if you look at it. Also keep eye on the mirror and move over slowly while accelerating. It's a matter of driving the damn thing!

Ditto. I have the side mirrors adjusted as far out as they will go.

If this is what you see from your side mirrors you have them adjusted wrong. Both mirrors should go down some and farther out. Dont need to see the sky.

I will admit that I too learned to adjust them poorly like many others. Many years ago my uncle who has been driving cargo work vans for decades told me that I was doing it wrong.

Just adjust them in a parking lot next to a car in your "blindspot" or rather the area in the next lane and slightly behind the front windows until you can see the car clearly. If you need to make a quick lane change this is the most important area you want to see, not 100ft behind you or the side of your own vehicle.

That's why I said "if." I was really just using your picture to explain my point better since I know a lot of people have their mirrors adjusted to look at the side of their own vehicle. I shake my head everytime I'm at a stoplight and I can see the person's face in the side mirror of the car ahead of me.

My wife gets mad at me when I adjust the mirrors in her car to where they're supposed to be.

I put OEM tow mirrors on for the same reason. Im short as shit (5’3”) and when I put the slider rails on the top of the bed sides for my tracracs i could no longer see over the bed to the entire passenger side blind spot of my truck. Tried a bubble mirror stick-on, just put tow mirrors on. They fixed it. I also tow so.. win-win.

Just wanted to update this thread since I havent logged in for awhile.

I ended up with a set of GM style tow mirrors... and have found exactly as described above.
They are great for seeing behind/alongside me but created a large nasty blind spot in front of me that has taken getting use to when pulling out at intersections or cross roads.
Either way... I needed them for towing my boat anyway. They were around $200.
