Which OBD2 Module to pick?

I plan to use OBD Fusion for basic monitoring and I need to make a decision on which hardware OBD2 module to use. Looks like Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ and OBDLink MX+ are the best 2 options and I was wondering which one got the most PID's for a Tundra 2021 with a supercharger? Price is not an issue.

Thanks you Sir. Do you have good PID's for the supercharger monitoring? I am just looking for basic stuff, the important stuff. I don't like the idea of wiring the ScanGauge 3 so this looks like a good option.

Thank you. Turns out there was an update I had not added, did that and found it right away.

 

I've been running the blue ELM adaptor from Amazon for years with no issues. Using the torque pro app and I like it. Have mine set to monitor fuel trims, AFR, coolant temp, IAT etc. Just need to input the pids manually for trans temp stuff.

 

The OBDLink MX+ comes with all the PIDs included like trans temp, gear and status of lock up, no extra cost and they have a great customer service. I do not know if there are specific supercharger PIDs.

 

When I downloaded the OBDLink app, it didn't show the Veepeak as an option to connect to. Are they not compatible?

 

Not sure but my guess would be you need an OBDlink device to use the OBDlink app.

 

Must be. I didn't realize some apps were exclusive.

 

The OBDlink app includes a lot more PIDs than the free ones, they make their money by selling their adapters since the app is free but a lot easier to use than the ones that require you to add all the PIDs yourself. Worth it in my opinion.

I was just about to ask if the obd2 modules will pickup tpms readings and saw your pics.
Which OBDII module do you have? or is it based on what app is installed on the head unit?

 

So you have to get the iDatalink Maestro interface module in order to retain your steering wheel controls, and the Maestro harness taps into the OBD.

The gauge pack, TPMS, etc. is a function of the Maestro.

*Sidenote* Just yesterday on a Tundra FB page, someone posted that their '21's TPMS would only display up to 50 PSI, and anything higher just showed dashes. Now I have to air up to 50+ to see if it's a thing.

 

Unless you're running E rated tires 44 is max psi so that makes sense since i assume the stock system would give you a too high alert

 

The Michelins on my '19 ( Which I thought were OEM, but not sure) are 50 max cold inflation.

Even at 44 cold, on a hot day 50 miles down the road are gonna' go over 50.

I shall conduct some science.

 

On my truck I have noticed that the PSI displayed on my Pioneer is off from my SG3 and the dash display.

 

I have E rated tires and my dash and PID on OBDLink will display pressures over 50#

 

Is it a consistent difference? Like HU always a couple lbs. high for example, or all over the place?

 

I'll look but the headunit always seems to be high consistently.

 

I actually kinda' forgot I have that in the gauge cluster, I was thinking it just alarmed if they went low.

I'll have to compare and see if mine match.

 

Just checked at lunch and they're in agreement to 1 lb. of each other.

 

I haven't plugged this in yet but quick question. I already have one bluetooth device the CarPlay on my iPhone, so it will support adding another bluetooth device such as the

Your phone should be able to handle multiple simultaneous bluetooth connections. I don't have a wireless carplay dongle on my rig, but I don't see how it would interfere with the OBD module. the plus side is you bought the module that in theory doesn't have the potential to drain your battery so you can just leave it plugged in and forget about it.
