Hey guys, a long while ago I replaced my air injection pumps because I had the p0418 code. During lunch my check engine light came on and I have the p2441 code. I checked out the Hewitt bypass kits and was wondering which one to get. There's the Gen II kit that's $400 and the V36H kit which is $190. Looking at the info, both systems will clear the code. The Gen II is obviously more advanced but seeing I already replaced the pumps and this time it's the valves, which kit should I get?Anyone who was in a similar situation as mine, which one did you get?

I installed the VH36 kit on my 2007 after it threw a P02442 code. All good for nearly 2 years now.

What they said. I ended up getting the "2008 - 2014 Plug & Play Bypass Kit w/ PRP" kit for my truck when mine started throwing the air bypass CEL.

Over the past year I have experienced the P2440, P2441, P2443, and P0418 codes, as well as the annoying issue of the computer thinking the truck is stuck in 4WLo and flashing VCS lights on my 2007 Tundra w 62000 miles (bought in 2018 from a friend w/ 24000 miles). I explored replacing the air injection pumps and the Hewitt Tech kits but decided to pass on all of it.

I have been able to somewhat reliably diagnose that at least for my truck, the 4Wlo and flashing VCS lights are remedied by keeping the gas cap clean and tight. I had replaced the gas cap for around $8 back in Aug of this year and it "fixed"
    this 4Wlo issue.

In the last couple of weeks the 4Wlo problem came back with a vengeance, and after re-reading a bunch of the blogs,
and spending $100 and installing a new rear ABS harness to the rear wheels (which did nothing in my case), I thought
what the hell and wiped out the gas cap w a paper towel, and haven't had this problem now since I did it a few days ago.

For the P2440/P2443 etc codes, I spent $40 and bought a code reader that allows me to clear the codes, and they
usually stay cleared for a day or two. Takes all of about 20 seconds, and do not need to disconnect the battery.

Finally, I put a quick connect battery terminal on the negative terminal of my battery for around $10. This just makes it easy
if I do need to reset the computer via the battery.

So... before you go to the trouble and expense of installing the Hewitt Tech kit, you may want to explore the code reader and
wipe out your gas cap if you are getting the 4W lo issue...

    Good luck...

Just curious for those that have installed the Hewitt units... Have you had any problems with emissions inspections?

    thanks

Check the build link in my signature.
Back when I did mine (around 180k miles), I don’t remember there being a bunch of options or different kits. There was one to bypass the pumps and one that would also override/bypass the valve that is under the intake (which also included the blank-off plates). The code I was getting was for the solenoid valve, so I went for the full meal deal rather than later have to deal with the pumps as well.

The blank off plates were bit of a pain to install, but not terrible. The rest of it was super easy, and I took extra time to make it all look factory when I was done. No further issues.

As far as emissions, I don’t know what specifically they check or test for. I live outside the “zone” in our county that requires them, so never had to get the truck tested. The bypass tells the computer everything is running fine, so no codes for a code reader to pick up. The system only runs on a cold start, so unless your emissions testing includes a cold start (dunno how they’d do that without making you leave the vehicle overnight), not sure how it would cause any issues.

I'm in the same boat you are (my county doesn't actually test emissions), thus was curious rather than concerned.
Our county does do a few what they call "Tampering Inspections", one of which is in the air injection system.
Whatever it is they do here in rural NC is simply visual... thx

And also agree that given this function is utilized on cold starts only, wasn't worried about trying to fix it..

It seems there is no option for the 5.7 Flex Fuel engine. Or am I missing something.

I just ordered a kit from Hewitt. I don't have any issues and I wanted some peace of mind. The air pump had already been replaced at around 70K miles and I now have 140K. I called them to see which one I'd need and the Gen I kit would work for what I need.
