I have a 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD and have decided to wire a mobile ham radio directly from the battery to the cab interior. I found an existing hole in the firewall on the driver side and removed the plug, added a grommet, and can run the two wires through that opening. My problem is that the battery is on the passenger side next to the fender and firewall and I have to run my new wire harness across the back of the engine compartment along the firewall to the driver side. In other vehicle installations I have done over the years, there were locations on the firewall, just below the plastic tray that runs just under the windshield and windshield wipers, where you could zip tie the wires so that they do not touch the engine. That arrangement no longer exists in the most recent Tundra. I do not want to drill holes in the plastic or firewall to accomplish what should be a very easy install. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Update to Ham radio wiring question: Since I cannot run the radio wiring along the back of the engine compartment against the firewall, I have decided that I might try running the wiring from the battery along the adjacent fender to the front, then along the structure just in front of the radiator to the other fender and then to the grommeted existing hole in the firewall into the driver side portion of the cab. Does anyone see a problem with this arrangement? I wrapped the wiring in split loom wire protectors, and then wrapped the entire length of the wiring in three layers of electrical tape, except, of course, the wiring that has to pass through the grommeted hole in the firewall. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have concerning this conundrum.

Good luck on your install. I just bought my Tundra and am currently looking for a way to hook up my mobile DMR radio. I saw in the book there was a warining about adding a mobile radio, so not sure if thats something to worry about. I have always done a radio in every vehicle I've owned and haven't had an issue yet. So we will see!

Hi guys, I just picked up a 2022 and was doing my own planning for 2m/440 rig. There does seem to be a wiring grommet down behind the battery that has my eye at the moment, I have not in the dash on the passenger side yet to find where it comes out. It would be ideal for me, my only option for the radio is under the passenger seat. Still have to decide on control head placement and speaker placement, I'm about deaf, need an external speaker.

My real problem, is I'm rather.....mmm...er meticulous, with my installations.

For the antenna mount, I am considering a very shallow mount like this one from Midland, off the cowl part of the hood. Other option would likely be a diamond lip mount.
