Looking to get a hole cut in my TRD skid plate for access during oil changes. Any ideas as to where I can take it to get this done? Don’t have the tools to do it myself

I'll preface my comment by saying that I have the full TRD skid plate. I've removed & reinstalled it 3 times since I bought it and it's really not that big of a deal.

    I'm assuming 2 things here:
    1. You're referring to the full TRD Skid Plate and NOT the composite plastic (whatever material it is) "skid plate" that comes factory on the TRD Off Road Package, correct?
    2. Also...I guess you want to do your own oil changes long term (after the 25k complimentary maintenance period), correct?
If the above is true then you'll need to cut 2 access panels or holes. One for the oil filter up front and one for the oil pan drain plug toward the rear. If I recall correctly (someone can confirm), the full TRD Skid Plate covers both. The small composite one only covers the front oil filter.

Also, you don't want to just cut a hole. You'll want to have some "brackets" with threads tapped in so you can reinstall the panels in the holes once the service is complete. This is going to require some fabrication. Otherwise if you leave holes in your skid plate...you might as well just leave it off (my opinion). You would need to go to a shop that does custom fabrication for this. A local (not a national chain) body shop, a welding shop, or a custom fabrication shop will be able to tackle this.

If you're really willing to pay that level of cost...you might also think about just selling your TRD Skid Plate and ordering an aftermarket option. I know I've seen at least one aftermarket skid plate (RCI or CBI?) come out that has an access panel designed into it. Might be cheaper to sell yours and buy theirs. Just a thought.

The 3rd Gen TRD Skid Plate doesn't have an access panel for the oil filter. I have no idea why.

I have a '24 Tundra Limited with TRD OR package. I did purchase the TRD full skid plate & Miller Cat Shield from my Toyota dealer. Got good prices on both. But now service is trying to tell me that although I have free oil changes, they want to charge me for removing and re-installing the skid plate. I said what... you sold me the skid plate. What does it take, a few minutes to remove it.

So I have this auto tech guy who lives close by and is a master with fabrication. I asked about making an access port like they do on the aftermarkets. No problem as long as he gets the correct location, etc. to make the access points, otherwise, I take the TRD plate off and look for a different solution. The 4 Wheel Drive parts store nearby said I wouldn't like the AM shields as they rattle too much. Haven't talked with anyone who has the AM shields in, so can't confirm that statement.

That’s nuts. I wonder if they charge customer’s with Pro’s more money to do oil changes when the free ones are up. If not I’d kindly bring that up or find a new dealership.
