Firewheel trails are relatively close to you.
Go at your own risk, because it's a no trespassing zone.

For legal offroading, Northwest OHV park is a couple hour ride from you in Bridgeport.

Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer is another option about 2 1/2 hours east of you.

The worst part about Texas. No public land.

I remember reading about some dirt roads at LBJ National Grasslands and the Angelina National Forest, but I haven't researched those. I'm guessing they're park roads and wouldn't necessarily qualify as challenging technical trails like you would find at Gilmer and Bridgeport.

Of course, there are also the trails/dirt roads at Big Bend National Park. Most are fairly easy, but I understand Black Gap Road has a challenging part. I explored the area a few years ago, but not being familiar with it I never found that part of Black Gap Road. Unfortunately, it's about a good 10 hour drive from DFW and about $30 to get in, but definitely worth the trip!

I've also heard that Big Bend State Park has some slightly more challenging dirt roads to traverse to get to some camping spots. I haven't gone there yet, but hope to explore that area one day. Again, it's just as far away and there's always the state park entrance fee to pay.

Equally as far as Big Bend is the Santa Fe National Forest near Santa Fe, NM. I went there a number of years ago and explored a lot of fun trails, including some that looked to be 4-diamond rated (I didn't try those). No entrance fee, either. Too bad it's so far away from us.

I also heard of the Lake Meredith Recreation Area near Amarillo that's supposedly public land. I know nothing about it, but here's a link:

    https://www.nps.gov/lamr/planyourvisit/ohv-off-highway-vehicles.htm

But for private OHV parks, Gilmer and Bridgeport are the closest I'm aware of. There's also Hidden Falls, near Marble Falls in the Hill Country, Katemcy Rocks (also in the Hill Country and not really Tundra-friendly), Escondido Draw Recreation Area (same group that's affiliated with Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer), Hot Springs OHV Park (in Hot Springs, AR about 5 hours northeast), Hogan's Off Road Park in Disney, OK (about 5-6 hours northeast), Green Acres Off Road Park in Clayton, OK (about 3 hours northeast). I'm sure there are others that I can't think of at the moment.
