Wheel spacers, what’s your take?

Never had them or needed them but I’m curious are they safe for off-roading and what’s the reason for them?

What’s your take?

 

Others will chime in I'm sure but other then looks I domt see any other use for them. People on here have them other have had them break studs off. Personally I would rather have a negative offset wheel not spacers.

 

I've been running 1" Failgear spacers for at least 8 years now. Never have had an issue and I've wheeled them hard on every black diamond trail in Big Bear. I needed them to clear the upper arm when I installed the ball joint spacers. Make sure to torque them to 100 lb.ft. This info pertains to my 4rnr.
I've heard the Bora brand spacers are the best quality spacers on the market.

 

Torque to spec and u or fine for day to day.

Going wheeling... just another part to worry about failing. Choose your own adventure.

Had Spider Trax on my FJ for years of hard wheeling, never an issue. I run BORA 1.25” on my PRO now, no issues. Just be smart, remember it’s apart you always have to look at...just like everything else!

 

Wheel spacers are a cheap and dangerous way to fix a problem .
Do it right buy the lift or wheel that fixes the issue so there’s no worry.
If you can’t afford to do it right leave it stock at least your safe and those around are to.

 

Ran my Spidertrax 1 1/4" spacers for 2+ years with zero issues, but she's a street queen . They were temporarily until I got my aftermarket rims. I wouldn't run them permanently

 

LOve my wheel spacers. Im running 1.25" BORA. THe purpose is to give your tire more room to clear the UCA as well as run wider tires. I wheel my truck and have had no issues. DOnt buy cheap ones and they have to be hubcentric. Proper installation and retorque is key to safety.

 

From what I've read, if installed correctly with a quality part, you should be fine and not even notice they were there.

For me, it's more of a mental thing than anything. Too many horror stories of wheels flying off while driving etc., etc. Like I said, I'm sure they are fine, but I won't use them...

 

Cheap chinese garbage. Yes this can happen with cheap spacers. If your not scared your factory studs wont snap, then as long as the wheel spacers have the same grade steel your all good. I Saw your post below and we seem to agree. Im not arguing here but I noticed a few thing in the pick.

1. Those studds are snapped but the wheel didnt fall off. If it did how is it possible it removed itself from the 3 good studs?
2. THe remaining studs are fine! Which means most likely that when these broke it was not a ctastrophic failure as the spacer and remaining studs are not damaged.
3. Looks to me like an overtorque situation with cheap steel. Or maybe when they remove the lugs the studs broke.
How did this happen!

I've wondered the same thing on spacers. I'm contemplating trying them out to see if I can get tire chains on the fronts to clear with them.

 

They are bora spacers.
.75 version.
Don’t know much behind it, all I know Is that the owner wheels his truck pretty good. He is competent with tools. Understands torque values. Even put lock tite on both hub side and lug side.
First weekend putting it on 1 side failed. Other side did perfectly fine.
He has spidertrax up front for 3+years still holding up.
