Today while changing oil and rotating tires I noticed something strange. I always do a once over the front end when changing the oil (visual inspection and grabbing the wheel and shaking it).
When I shook the wheel today from the 9 and 3 position,I got two different results.
When the truck is only jacked up on one side with the jack under the LCA, I get zero movement or noise. When I jack the truck up to where both wheels are off the ground and suspension is at full droop, I get play in the wheel and I can hear and see the steering wheel and shaft move. This result is on both side of the truck shaking the wheel.
Is this normal for when the front end is at full droop or is my rack worn out? Or am I too ham on my wheel shakes?

Normal, as long as steering shaft matches the wheels. Better test of rack and steering shaft u joints is leaving wheels on ground and have partner gently rock steering wheel back and forth 5 degrees. Observe wheel, shaft and input fitting. Ensure that fitting does not move without wheel motion.
