Can left over wheel weight adhesive cause a tire imbalance?

Recommend cleaning before new set of tires installed?

Tires/wheels total are 100 lbs each, I figured it doesn’t matter, but some have said it can. Trying to clear this rumor.

I'm no expert but I guess technically it can cause an imbalance because there's a marginal weight to the adhesive. But probably negligible. Best practice just to clean off the residue.

The balancing machine doesn’t know if there is adhesives on there or not. Its job is evenly distribute weight around the wheel. In the end, there is no effect if properly balanced by the texhnician. However, it could add more weights to offset that. I’d clean them off, my OCD wouldn’t like seeing that in there.
