What's up with this thing hanging down underneath my truck?

My 2011 Tundra looked like it had a piece of metal hanging down, so I looked under there. The truck has sort of a skid plate, and on each side of the sort of a metal wing. The right side metal wing like thing is hanging down like this, in such a way that I can push the outside side up a few inches. It's almost like it's hinged or something. But, I can't see any kind of bolt or clip missing. In fact, it looks as if the thing it held on by spot welds or some such thing. Does anyone know what's going on here?

You pretty much nailed it. The stock skid plate has "wings" that are spot welded to the main center section. From the small piece that I can see it looks like your skid plate has taken a beating so it is not very surprising that it is all twisted up and busted.

I can relate to the lame stock skid plate. Here is mine with the wings cut off.

I know the bottom was getting hammered in deep snow, but I don’t do serious rock crawling, just some dirt roads. Do you think I should get someone to weld a repair?

You can probably find a used take off in almost new condition for under $50. I gave mine away for a pack of cigarettes to a forum member.

I don’t think it is worth it to repair in my opinion. If you ever hit it again it will just keep doing the same thing. Unless you find a trd pro skid plate the stock skid plates that Toyota gave us are basically sacrificial. I also agree with @joonbug look around this forum or other local selling sites and find a take off from a pavement princess, most people pretty much give them away.
