I am interested in updating my wheels with a newer truck set. I think mine has the stock gen 1 16" wheels.

What sizes were the stock options at the time of the truck being new?

I want to put modern Toyota wheels that match in specs to the originals that were available to make sure the geometry is correct.

Any known more modern Toyota model wheels that match the the original options for the Tundra I should look out for?

    Edit:
Ultimately I really like the 17" Tacoma/4Runner black TRD wheels like on the 2019 models. Would these particular wheels mess up the intended geometry of the 1st Gen tundra?

    Here:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/lets-see-1st-gen-with-toyota-rims.40487/

Long story short newer Tundras have either 5 bolt or too large 6 bolt, wont fit without extra work. 4Runner or Taco wheels fit our trucks but have a higher offset. The 4Runner and Taco wheels look right if you use 1.5" or so wheel spacers.

You wont really notice a difference in geometry due to a difference in offset with a truck. In the BMW or sporty car world a difference of +/- 10mm wheel offset can be felt.

On a truck the weight distribution, angles of suspension geometry, tire contact patch, polar moment of inertia, toe in and camber changes through articulation, etc aren't going to be felt appreciably enough by a major change in wheel offset.

Plenty of guys on here running the higher offset newer Toyota wheels without complaint. And plenty of guys put spacers on newer Toyota wheels just for the look of it.

Thanks for the link... I'll go through the thread and see if I can get a better grasp of what will work correctly mechanically.

Did the 1st gens come with 17" option? I'm pretty sure mine are 16" currently.

Pic is my truck with 2016 Tacoma TRD wheels and 1.5" spacers before upgrading to the 18" BBS. The spacers helped bring the wheels just flush with the fender flares.

Yup. One of the best looking 17" came on the 1st gen Tundra and Sequoia.

Oh yeah that's a good looking wheel. I'd love to find some of these.

They're getting harder to find in good condition for a fair price. Especially the gunmetal finish.

Sometimes you gotta give other people a chance to answer. This isn't "shifty's 1st Gen section", and I hope it never comes to that

@Jack87 as was so eloquently articulated above, there are two versions of that wheel: One that's bright metallic silver ("hypersilver") that came on the Tundras, and a slightly smoked one that came on the Sequoia. I am finally saying sayonara to mine as soon as I get tires mounted on my new wheels, but haven't thought about how much I'll ask. I love 'em but ... no room to keep an extra set of wheels unless I unmount the tires and throw the wheels in the attic.

There's someone either here or on TacomaWorld selling them at an exorbitant price. I've seen folks give them away. But the average price seems to run about $60-100/wheel used. The only downside is, with the width and offset only offering about 4" of backspace, running anything larger than a 32.5" tire without spacers will have you rubbing suspension. But they look damn nice!

Mine are in pretty damn mint condition, only 75k miles, no curb rash, and never seen salt roads which will eat the finish and pit the alloy.

I had the limited 17s for a long time and they're very nice. I picked up these take-offs with tires from a guy with a new 4runner for 200 bucks. I didn't bother swapping the wheels. I think they look nice, the offset lines up well and they're everywhere on the trading apps

I am in the hunt for those 17s too.

Get on car-part.com and search for 1G Sequoia and Tundra wheels and you’ll see the “factory” options (even the steelie spare!), “factory” at least in the sense the junkyards’ interchange system is concerned. Last time I looked it showed pics of each style and then you can select that style and search yards near you. Many of the search results have several pics of the truck they’re mounted on so you can get an idea before calling the yard or making a visit.

These are a win. Ultimately this is what I want but I want to make sure it doesn't mess with the suspension geometry.

What size are these particular wheels. How much did you end up scoring them for?

Original 16'" Enkei Wheels with Michelin 265 70R16. Sadly, no longer available. Hard to find in good condition. The center caps are basically non-existent now. For me this is the best combination for the early Gen1s. For a time I tried an 18-inch aftermarket wheel with a high quality sport truck street tire and it made the ride too stiff and uncomfortable. Switched back pronto.

Each years brochure shows the wheels offered.

Your 01 MY came with 16" as only option and 2 colors, standard style steel and aluminum alloy wheel. 2003 was the first MY they offered 17" wheels.

    MY 2001 choices....

    They are 16x7, 6 lug, 5-1/2"

I got the wheels/tires for $1K, the guy was upgrading his wheels/tires on his Tacoma. These do not mess with the suspension geometry because the offset is very close to OEM and the truck drives great with these. I personally love the machined look.

I put on 06 XSP 4runner wheels. Specifically they are Enkei WT4 wheels that came on the "southern US" package for 4runners. No spacers used. 20x8.5"

Geometry change fears or not, you should always get realigned after changing your wheels and tires anyway, it's good practice to avoid undesirable tire wear.

Question while we are on the subject.
I see lots of folks here putting tacoma / TRD / 4runner wheels on 1GT's.
Do some/ any of these wheels have the same back spacing as the wheels that came on our trucks?

I keep coming across some nice looking 4 runner wheels for affordable prices but are 20". I imagine those may not work?

The larger diameter the wheel, the skinnier the tire you'll need to wrap it in. All depends on the look and purpose you intend for the truck.

Someone should mention, 1gt's have a 106mm hub bore, 3gt's have a ?98? Mm hub bore, which it why they wont fit without some machining. Hub fit wheels are much stronger than lug fit wheels.

i need to find a set of steelies for off road tires.
