Looking at a crewcab 2006 Tundra, 230k one owner , looks really nice in pictures, lots of maintenance records, what should I be looking for? Where are the frame rust issues? What do I need to ask or look for when I go look at it? They are asking $8000?

Not sure what happened with title? How do I change that???

He’s saying look for black paint on the frame... to be honest... you’d be well served to find a nice/honest/local mechanic and pay him $150 or so to completely go through the truck. Check all systems, check for codes, inspect it, etc. It could be a great truck... but anything that age with 230K on the clock is likely to need a bit of work. Ask him specifically to check for the cam tower leak of you’re going that route. IMO anyway.. good luck!

Look for frame rust anywhere. Bring a flashlight and check it thoroughly. I probably spent 5 minutes on the ground checking mine before I even test drove it.

Timing belt has to be done every 90k. Check the records for that.

$8k with that many miles seems a bit on the high side unless it's immaculate.

This is 1st gen section. There are no cam tower issues with the 1st gens.

You can search online in your area for pre purchase inspections/inspectors, that’s what I did when I bought our 4runner out of state. Usually around 100-150$. He gave a detailed checklist report and tons of pics, test drove it, checked for leaks, checked paint depths all over multiple panels(to see if repairs were being hidden). Totally would recommend even if you live in the area.
When I flew in, I met the lady at her bank, test drove and hot dogged it, drove it 8 hours back home and still love every bit of it

No, I meant buy a black one :D

But very good point to inspect the frame carefully for cover up jobs.

Mine is rusting by the front leaf hanger. Might be worth checking there.
