So I'm doing a complete overhaul of my audio system, speakers, new amp & sub, head unit.

Does it make a difference, in your experience, what to install first? I'm looking for the simplest route. I already have the HU and all the little accessories from Crutchfield, still waiting on the speaker package.

Any reason not to put in the HU now? What about the amp connections? (OEM non-JBL amp is presumably going in the trash soon)

    Thanks

I m not familliar with a non JBL oem amp. If it were me I would probably do it all at the same time. Then there s the question, if you have an amp are you going to replace it with an aftermarket one? Many times the simplest route is not that simple.

You can install the head unit now and run the speakers off of it. Once you install amps you will be running speaker wire from the amp to the doors and "dead ending or bypassing" the connections behind the radio. That how I recently did mine.

I did my system in stages. While I was waiting for system from James at tech12volts.com, I started by sound deadening all the doors. Once my system came in I installed the component speakers in the door, sound deadened the rear wall and installed the sub box (not connected to anything yet.) A week or so later I did the head unit and amp. This was my first install in about 12-15 years, so I couldn't imagine doing it all at once by myself.

Just some food for thought, if you install the head unit now before everything else comes in, you'll have to pull the radio out again unless you run the remote power wire, bass knob(?) and RCAs when you install the head unit.

Thats exactly how I did mine. Would you happen to have the Anytime camera in yours?

I guess that is enough reason to wait. If I had the amp/speakers/sub already I think I'd start with those.

Planning on just setting aside an entire weekend for the upgrade:
    1) Pop open the doors, install speakers
    2) Remove some seats, install new amp and sub
    3) Tear open the dash, install HU
    4) Connect everything
    5) Test
    6) Button it up
