So looks like we will be doing a cruise to Alaska this year again - and planning on spending a couple of days in Seattle pre cruise (Mrs love it out there) - up until now we’ve just done Pikes when in town pre/post cruise - but with more time looking for suggestions on what to do.

Aside from blocking the traffic protesting people making less than $48 an hour, sleeping outdoors on the sidewalk with all our possessions and trying heroin - any other suggestions on things to while in Seattle ?

Pop Culture Museum looks interesting - but I heard it’s a tad over hyped and a lot of the touch/feel exhibits will likely be closed. I’d prefer to stay outdoors vs standing around in lines all day - but also don’t want to spend a fortune on taxis so trying to stay near waterfront or downtown things. Thanks.

Never been to Seattle but this is my suggestion.

    In no particular order

Alki beach (take the water taxi)
Ferry to any of the islands, but if you have the time, head out to the san Juan islands. Plenty to do within walking distance from the ferry and the ride is pretty cool kind of like a mini cruise:)
Take a ferry to Victoria, BC (If the border is open)
Walk up and down Western Ave
    Fremont Troll (take the bus)
Walk around Fremont and people watch
    Gas works park
    Lake Union
    Lake Union seaplane (budget permitting)
    Underground tour
    Experience museum project
The crazy Amazon building with the terrarium inside
    Pacific Science Center
If you're a kid at heart, the children's museum is actually pretty cool.
Stan Sayres memorial park (or anything on that side of lake Washington)

If you can swing a rental car for a day, Rainier is worth the drive.

I haven’t been downtown in a few years, but everyone I talk to says it is a dumpster fire. That’s probably too broadly applied and parts are still nice, but I would stay away if I was you.

What are you looking to do? Hikes and outdoor stuff or window shopping and foodie destinations?

Catch an Ms game at TMobile Park ( one of the best MLB parks in the land), or Hawks at Lumen Field (loudest fans in the NFL!). Husky fball too, but Go Cougs. Check the schedules obviously, but should find something. Never been a big fan of the EMP (Pop Culture Museum). Live near Alki Beach, if the sun is out go there and get some awesome fish and chips from literally any place that sells em down there, and try to spy orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, dolphins….

Went over there for a Mariners game with a buddy haven’t been there in probably 5 years or so other than lay overs at the airport and it’s honestly nasty I won’t be going back to Seattle especially downtown it’s really gone to shit. We hit up the baseball game then decided to go down to pikes place look around there was needles everywhere human shit rubbed on atm machines homeless people literally sleeping inside shops we bounced fast. Id stay away from that area and go to the outskirts personally . The music museum is my favorite and always has been also the harbor cruise was fun Mariners game is a blast if you’re into baseball. Stay safe!

Think the plan is to head over to Bainbridge Island for a day - easy enough to take the ferry ride and walk around for a few hours enjoying the parks.

Walking up to Pike - it’s ok, been there enough to know it’s equal parts hype and flea market with very little we would miss - some unique vendors there - and some quality shops, but a lot of tourist junk too. No - they are not throwing the fish to avoid crowds at the moment. Again - once you’ve seen it once - no big deal. Never understood the crowds of tourist standing there filming it.

Staying at the Edgewater - it’s not a big place based on what I saw from the webcam - and certainly has a place in rock history. I think it’s funny how they “commemorate” The Beatles stay with a special suite - yet no special rooms in honor of Zeppelin or Black Sabbath amongst others. Guess they don’t like “that” kind of publicity - or got tired or of fishing the furniture outta the bay.

Yes, I’m aware of what a complete shithole downtown can be - but I also think there is a bit of a double standard at play here. I mean it’s Seattle - hipster paradise and home to a bunch of yippies (yuppie/hippie). Go visit Philadelphia or Baltimore and if you live tell me they are much better. Hell - Detroit cleaned it’s act up in the last 10 years so there’s hope for Seattle - it’s not like Afghanistan or South Chicago.

^^^^ A ferry ride is a great idea, consider going out to the San Juans (Friday Harbor) vs Bainbridge.
