What keys should have come with my 2021 Tundra?

I bought a used 2021 Tundra 1794 Edition from a Toyota dealer a month ago. It is equipped with a Leer canopy. The dealer handed me the single fob and said they would try and find the extra keys. No follow up.

I will be calling them this week and demanding that they supply all necessary and relevant keys.

What keys originally came with the Tundra? My 2019 4Runner came with 2 keys with the built in fob.

My Tundra fob has the integrated/hidden key in it, but it doesn't seem to actually work in my doors or tailgate.

After having to spend $600 at the dealer to replace a set of Rav4 keys that were destroyed in a fire, I am leery of not having a back-up set of keys for my Tundra.

I have a '21 1794, bought it brand new. It came with two identical key fobs, both with hidden door keys.
It also came with one single key for the tail gate lock.
    Good Luck!

You bought used and that means you bought "as is." You can "demand" all you want, but you have no leg to stand on.

When I traded in my 2015, it had all keys, fobs, aftermarket remote start fobs, paperwork, manuals and even the original window sticker. I even told the dealer to give the next owner my contact info in case the next owner had any questions.
Now, I'm awesome (obviously), but most people aren't. Most people lose their spare key and don't bother to look for it when they trade in. And the dealer will always lie and say they'll look around for it, but they know they don't have it and don't care once you drive away.
You could always try to track down the previous owner and see if they still have it, or just pay to have another one made.

Yup, old salesman tactic "Eh, i'll take a look at that, go ahead and sign this paperwork so we can get you on the road...". Never to be heard from again.

As mentioned, your key in the fob key should work in the doors and tailgate.

You should have 2 fobs and 1 regular key.

Dealer did the same thing to me when I bought my certified used Tundra. Except their reasoning for only 1 fob for my 2020 Tundra was a “chip shortage and they now only come with 1 fob”.

I got two fobs(with keys) and one key.

They all work in the drivers door and tailgate but they are not symmetrical and will only work one way.

Two keyed fobs and one service or valet key, plus maybe wheel locks key would be proper. That said my truck has Trail Edition bed boxes, so of course two keys for those as well. If I were to sell it now, I would transfer the fuel door, fuel tank, wheel locks, tailgate anti-theft, and maybe the high lift lock keys to the buyer. Hitch lock is mine! So yeah, depending on what's been done, there can be quite a few more keys than one might think about during signing.

I hint one key with my 17 and as mentioned above, know that’s the way it goes sometimes with a used vehicle. Bummer was no keys for the canopy. I tracked that down with the serial number stamped on the inside of the canopy (most topper retailers can help with that). Fortunately, the topper retailer was cool enough to simply give me the key.

Instead of getting the fob replaced, I would just get a standard key cut. It won’t disarm your alarm but will get you out of a pinch and into your rig and the alarm will turn off when key is in the ignition. The exception here may be the newer key style you have - not sure if you can get a standard key cut from that or not - perhaps someone with a 21 or newer can comment.

When I traded in our car, the dealer didn’t even ask me for the second fob. I told him, here it is, save the next owner some head ache.

I have a keyless entry and lost a fob on my 2020. Ended up using Toms Keys to remove the lost key and program a new one. It worked well and saved some money, but after two attempts, they could not cut the hidden key correctly. They sent me a blank and a partial refund that I’ll have a locksmith do.

Negotiations and demands happen before you sign and take delivery. I’m always adamant about getting two keys, or getting in writing that they will source a second key for me when buying used.

I bought my ex a used Jeep Liberty. The dealer only had 1 key and FOB. He said the previous owner had promised to bring him the 2nd key and FOB and he would mail it to me. I said not good enough. There was a Jeep dealer next door and he signed a note that if he did not get the 2nd set he would have the Jeep dealer cut key and program. Fortunately the previous owner brought him the other set and he mailed it to me. I will not buy a used vehicle without 2 sets. Long gone are the days of just going to the hardware store and cutting a new key. When Toyota did away with the valet key I have even requested a 3rd key when buying new.

Yep. Pretty sure I was an idiot for not getting the appropriate keys included in writing in the deal.

Unfortunately, if it's not in writing it didn't happen. They'll deny it or dodge calls, or the really bad ones will laugh in your face about it.

@MountainMan I'd suggest going in as kindly as possible and if they can't/won't get you a second key, try asking if they can work you a deal on a new one. It sucks, but it beats full price for a replacement.

    This.
*most* people in any circumstances are pretty reasonable. Heck, go in even admitting fault and see if they can help you out. They may be hamstrung on the key price, but would be able to hook you up with something else.

going in guns blazing is never the move.
