So I had my drive belt changed 2 months ago. The tensioner needed to be replaced after a quick evaluation from a local repair shop. I was slightly worried due to the knocking sound but low and behold that was what wrong. It started knocking right after an oil change last week.

I also had the fuel induction service done and replaced the spark plugs. This truck has never run so well at 181,818 miles! Just replaced the brakes all around (rotors, pads, shims) and this truck drives like brand new.

Welcome from OKC! So the knocking was caused by the tensioner, interesting.

Correct, I noticed it being in sync with the belt revolution but still had no idea until I had it looked at.

Last car i had that was knocking from this area was the water pump.
(unfortunately i wasn't sure that was it so i paid the shop to replace the alternator first, at $600 bucks then Toyota to replace the water pump ($60 part) for another $600.

Was very disappointed the first shop gave the car back to my wife making the same noise we dropped it off for after taking our money. (i was outta town).

squealing from belts and idler pulley bearings.

Thanks for posting though, also good to have noise that match symptoms and solutions.

You have good friends if 1) they are helping you and 2) they know exactly how to push your buttoms.
