I know this has been posted before - I distinctly remember seeing the same pic earlier this year but can’t find the thread. I found this on my garage floor roughly under the right front wheel well area. A Google picture search says it’s a door plug, but nothing on my 2023 doors look anything like this. Could also be a floor plug. But I’ve scoured the bottom of the truck. 1) No empty hole. 2) I see two other sized floor plugs, one smaller than this and one bigger. But none this size. 3) This thing is really clean. One side is spotless like it’s never seen the light of day, so clearly the “inside”. But even the other side has no signs of any dirt whatsoever on it. No way it’s been exposed to road grime for a year like a floor plug would. Edge to edge, it’s 1 3/16” across. Based on what I believe to be the inside, it looks like it plugs a 3/4” hole. Any clues what and where?

The tundra used to get plugs put in a couple of the lower control arms holes to stop the wind noise. Might be that.

Yeah, I found one in my driveway and my son and I couldn't for the life of us figure out which truck it was off of and where it goes. Nothing else has fallen off our trucks yet, so it must not be that important.

The plug that covers the wheel bearing grease fitting on my utility trailer looks like that.

Really interesting that he found it in the exact same place as mine near the front right wheel well area, and that his also looked to be in new condition like mine. I know mine didn’t come from any other vehicle as no other vehicle has ever been parked in my garage/workshop. The mystery continues…

Check behind the cab right where it meets the bed about a foot up from the bottom. Each side has a grommet similar to that.

I see the ones you’re talking about. Similar, but not quite the same. Mine are both still in place. Those are a little bigger, and definitely get a little dirty from road grime. Plus a good six feet farther back from where I found mine on the floor. That’s the weird thing, how stinking clean this thing is to have just fallen out onto the floor after over a year and 11k miles.

Is there a plug like that on the passenger side firewall?? I know there's one on drivers side by brake booster. But if there's one on passenger side as well it could have popped out when closing door? Maybe?

I found the same plug in the same place under my truck a few weeks ago. 2022 SR5 with factory TRD lift. Spent a good amount of time trying to find where it might have fallen from to no avail.

Just checked. There is one on both sides, but they’re a little smaller, and both are in place.

Yes, clean as a whistle. And fell out where I park the truck is the most confusing thing. You would think it would fall out while driving over a bump or something.

There’s no way it’s a coincidence that quite a few people have reported it in the exact same location and all like it’s a brand new part. This one’s going to drive my OCD through the roof. Problem is, since the thing is so clean, it’s likely not coming from a place that’s going to be easily seen from the underside, else it would be dirty. So I’m guessing more likely from the engine bay. And it’s tough looking around in there.

And why the hell do they just fall out when the damn thing is sitting there overnight?

This is crazy. In Knoxville, in my driveway, 3 days ago see the same thing sitting in my driveway. Passenger side, probably mid door area of the front. Driveway has a bit of a slope so it could have rolled a foot easy towards the back.

What I can’t believe is that as many people as have reported it, nobody has figured it out yet. It’s really consistent as far as where it’s found and that it’s usually pretty clean. And that it just magically drops off when the truck is parked. I’ve just begun the hunt.

Sorry, too much Egg Nog. Er, or maybe not enough???

Anyway, two 3rd Gen's have lived at my house and I haven't had the pleasure of finding one of these. Not yet at least.

It took 14 months and 11k miles before I found mine. There’s still plenty of time for you.

My guess is these are temporary body plugs that get removed and misplaced during the manufacturing process.

I also know that similar plugs are often removed from the frames in order to strap the vehicle down for transport, and the dealer is suppose to re-install them after delivery.

I might buy the temporary plug theory if it weren’t for the fact that everyone reporting it has found it in nearly the exact same place under the right front wheel well/firewall area. That’s not a coincidence.

Is that the same part? It's on a tailgate; both sides, by the hinges (did not remove it to cross reference to P/N).

    That's absurd.

It is well known in some circles that Grommet Elves distribute these every so often in case we need one.
