Yeah I have 295x70x18's. I already have matching spare under the truck. I bent one of my rims (just a tad bit) on the trail and thinking I'll buy another matching tire as a 2nd spare. I've split my side wall once on the trail and popped a bead once on the trail. Never know when a 2nd one is needed.

For me the time savings alone would be huge. You'd lose a full day at least having to drop it off, pick it up, find a ride.
I'd love a spray in liner but too much money and hassle for me. I hope I dont regret it one day. My have a nearly water tight tonneau so I think I'm a little ahead of the game with my drop in liner

The holes in the roads in ny, ct, mass are unreal. The winter time heaves up huge mounds and the plows destroy them. I've seen holes a foot deep and 3 feet around happen overnight. It sucks so bad.

Now they are saying that the chemical they spray on the road is worse than salt on the vehicles.

Do you run trails with just one spare? Some of the guys here in SoCal recommend two full spares...

I wish they went back to sand and occasional salt. Back in the day the town I lived in just sanded the roads to add some traction. It was messy but it was just sand. Then when it was icy they would add salt to the sand. This wasnt great but it's better than what they use now. Now they spray a chemical down before it snows, they have to time it right. It helps melt it when it starts to fall. And supposedly helps the plows remove it easier. This stuff I horribly corrosive and its used everywhere . It costs residents of these states millions of dollars in repairs over the years. It's really really bad. To keep a car long term, you have to get under there and sand and paint areas and treat your frame and metal parts every year with some kind of oil, wax, or rust inhibiting coating. Even undercoating gets destroyed by this stuff. My buddy had his underbody and frame linex'd and the chemicals broke a lot of that down in one winter.
Yup it's very bad, highly corrosive and I'm sure you've noticed the nasty slurry it makes when it starts to melt the snow. It gets everywhere. I just got a fluid film spray kit, and I plan to spray my underside and engine bay very soon. I'll do everything underneath except the exhaust. Suspension, hitch, frame, body, brackets, steps, axle, nuts , bolts. Maybe even under my drop in bed liner. It's all getting sprayed every year, maybe twice a year. My truck had been through 3 winters and already looks pretty rough under there. I'm gonna change that with this fluid film. It actually cam help dissolve some surface rust from what I have read. You can use aerosol spray cans, maybe 4 to do the truck but I went all out with the air sprayer and bought a gallon of the fluid film

Omg, that is so not right! All the residents should get refund money for all the damage not just on the vehicles but what it could be doing to the environment! Im no activist but all those chemicals cant be good to any living thing!

I don't do trails or any offloading really. But I can say for certain if I did, especially for long trips, I'd have 2 spares, preferable full size.

I'm sure there will be a class action suit soon enough. Between the snow melt chemicals and then the road damage, its costs residents a lot of money in long term and short term damages, a lot of money.
I'm no activist either but I do think it's scary what it does to the environment. The grass on the side of the road never comes back in the spring like other grass does, trees near roads die, especially my beloved sugar maples. At my old house there were 2 nice maples about 10 feet off the road, one was probably 150 years old and the other 100, they were beautiful and lived all those years, within 3 years of the new chemical treatment, they were dead. They held up for probably 20 years of salt, but the chemical slurry killed them in 3

I thought they used a brine and have heard of them using beet juice or potato juice on the roads in TN. Not sure what they are using for you guys up north
