What is this blacked out hardware strategy? I'm thinking this might be the next thing I do to my 2017 Platinum CM and I would love the black hardware.

A few of us have gone through with it. I personally think it looks cleaner than bare metal.

Anyway, I just roughed all of the surfaces of the hardware up with some 120 grit and painted it all with some black high temp paint I had laying around. There’s nothing fancy about any of it.

Just a random thought I had driving home from work yesterday, amber rear blinkers look really cool. I think it'd look great on our trucks if the reverse bulb was a switchback with amber as the blinkers.

Also I can't tell if the pulsing brake lights when first applied is cool or annoying. I was behind a WRX that had it but it was the little square light in the bumper, then another car (I can't remember what it was) that did it to the actual brake lights. I think that was a little much.

Did you order the light or dark smoke? It shows on the website there are 2 smoke options. Thanks!

Yeah like u said its rail dust. I have the unfortunate pleasure of my truck being parked while at work near train tracks. The stuff is nasty and it clings to your vehicle. A product that will make your lives easier is an iron remover. I purchased some Iron X. You spray the spots and wait a bit, it will turn purple actually dissolving the rust. Then just make sure you do a good job cleaning it off. You dont want to try and rub it off with just soap. Use soap first to clean off any heavier dirt and grime. After it's washed, spray the iron x on, and like magic it wipes right off. Just make sure whatever product you purchase you follow the instructions. The one I bought is even safe for ceramic coatings. Good luck hope this helps.

    Not sure at this point.
Thanks! Yeah I searched it up and iron-x was one of the options. I may go with Chemical Guys Decon spray since I’m using a lot of CG products as well.

I like the tinted look, but figured this was an easier replacement, especially when not having to do anything inside the cab. 4 screws from truck bed and then swap out the lenses.

Did the dark smoke I believe. Model #200?

Adding the LED red light bulb made the decision for me.

Getting just as bright/brighter than stock, but get the dark lens look on the truck was exactly what I was looking for.

I had a strobing third brake light LED for a little while. It blinked 5 or so times before staying on solidly. My wife said it was annoying. So I took that as a sign that it 100% fulfilled its purpose.

As a biker for nearly 40 years, I can tell you that the purpose of a strobing or modulated brake light isn't to look cool or be annoying. IT'S TO GET YOUR ATTENTION.

However, if it's annoying you, as TeashcanBand said, it's working. Because while you're sitting there annoyed, you DEFINITELY know that someone is in front of you so you aren't going to hit us while you're texting or talking on the phone or doing your nails or stuffing fast food in your piehole or being distracted in some other way.... (I've seen most of the above while riding.)

And while I wouldn't bother putting a brake light modulator on my Tundra, my Gold Wing, my Vulcan and my wife's Vulcan all have them. So that we get home alive.

So yeah, they may annoy you. Just smile, wave, and who knows? If the guy you waved at is wearing a Widows Sons vest and waves back, it might just be me. ;)

BTW, @TrashcanBand, the LiteBuddies on my old Beemer pissed off my ex-wife. Said she was never going to follow me to the shop again. Super bright brake and running lights. I wish I could get them for.my Vulcan...

I hear you. They have their place for sure. I’m not a motorcycle rider myself but I rarely see bikes without some sort of strobe or alternate lighting around here. Too many people pay too little attention.

Bob Top. Those guys have been in the game a long time and I hear good reviews. I stopped in and picked a brochure from them the other day as I am trying to decide if I am going the hard topper route.

Oh don't get me wrong, I totally understand their purpose. I think they work good for what they're intended for. I was just in stop and go traffic at the time and it was almost constant blinking lights since you're on and off the brakes so much.

Sometimes if traffic slows suddenly I'll put my hazards on to let people behind me know it's a quick stop.

What did I do to my Tundra today? Took a backroad home. As Brad Paisley sings, I "got a little mud on the tires!" And the body, too. Gonna have to see if the hose is thawed out tomorrow - I don't think it'll be, so maybe time for a trip over the Appalachian Gap to the nearest car wash.

I hear you. I know they can be annoying. But having known riders who got rear-ended, it's one of my bigger fears. That, and sand in tight corners. ;) At every stoplight, I tend to leave the bikes in gear with my hand holding the clutch in, have the bike angled so I can bail out around whatever car is in front of me in a hurry, and leave at least 10' between me and the car in front of me to be sure that I CAN get out of the way of someone who isn't thinking. I didn't get to be an old biker by being careless or stupid. Or trusting other drivers.

Been rear-ended in a car before... I still remember hearing screeching tires behind me while I was stopped in a line of traffic at a light, followed by a loud CRASH... followed by ME getting rear-ended a couple of seconds later! Some idiot never even touched his brakes and slammed into the pickup truck behind me at 45, who got sling-shotted into my station wagon. HARD. Thank G-d for seat belts and head rests. And crumple zones. And bigger American cars (92 Sable wagon; not as big as my 66 Dodge, but big enough so I wasn't hurt bad.) The two guys in the truck behind me? There were two round holes in the rear window where the backs of their heads went through it... and two broken zones on the WINDSHIELD where they hit the FRONT of their heads.

Great video! I liked that you showed the actual process of drilling out the plastic welds and such. Most of the other videos on the install skip over that part, and it is a little more involved than “take your time”.
