Finally got around to this... So far the dash speakers sound great! I have some kilmat for the doors too.

Did you replace the head unit too, or just speakers? I’ve got a ‘16 platinum that I wish sounded a little better

Head unit is the main thing that will improve sound...but just replace everything if $$ isn’t an issue. Well worth it!

Thanks for the confirmation - my worry was the how the sticking part of the hook/loop would adhere to the bedliner as I'm sure it's designed to go better on smooth painted surface.

I'd like to get better sound and make it be able to be much louder out of my stock stereo. I won't replace my head unit. What are the best options? Can it have amplifiers added to it? Is there a thread that outlines the best possible ways?

Why are you against replacing the HU? If you keep your factory HU then you can get a DSR1 or some other type of signal processor and then add whatever amps and speakers that you want but if you have an older factory HU then that won’t get you ACP or AA or navigation. So for a couple hundred more you can get a new HU instead of the signal processor and get all of the extra functionality. If you got factory HU/signal processor route then you can make it sound decent If you get it tuned correctly but won’t sound as good as it would with a good aftermarket HU.

Didn’t do it today did it yesterday but I put some black rhino Arsenal 20x9.5 with ko2’s 295/55r20. Tight fit in stock suspension. Going to need a little bit of trimming lol.

Finished up the front doors today and the sound is very much improved. I've already upgraded the sub. Both were from groups guys with Tech12Volts. I'm really happy so far. I can update tomorrow morning after I finish the rear doors.

Ordered it all from Amazon, except for the short side bars (ordered them yesterday) from eBay. They were new and about 50.00 off.

Installed the Kenwood DMX957XR to replace the factory head unit & FIX-86.

Found the sound to be much cleaner, and I no longer need to constantly adjust the bass level control between every song.
Tuning from the head unit vs connecting my laptop to the Fix-86 was much more convenient.

    My Audio History:
Replaced the factory sub & sail panel tweeters with the OEM Audio Plus JBL package.
Replaced the OEM Audio Plus Sub with the JL Stealthbox connected to JP XD600/1v2
    - Just not enough bass for me
    Added Fix-96 connected to XD400/4v2 connected to C5-650's & C3-650's
    - Bass can pound my head, but not in my chest (Thought it could be the signal coming from factory unit)
Replaced Fix-86 & Factory Head unit with Kenwood DMX957XR
    - Initially, there was not much difference in Bass, but after tuning for a while,
which specifically included flattening out the bass frequencies, the bass was now pounding my chest.
    Now I am done....

Are the temps with a pinned thermostat or just regular operation? Numbers look really good.

How difficult is it to replace the HU? And what HU’s are recommended?

I am looking at this same HU and want to pull the trigger but dang, that's some major change to drop. Is it worth it and have you kept a majority of you steering wheel settings with the Maestro set up? Plan on starting at HU and working way down to speakers. Hopefully I won't blow them up. Sounds like you got a nice setup btw.

All in all it was well worth it, the sound difference is pretty substantial, and the amount of tuning that can be done really helps out with tailoring the sound exactly how I want it.
I do have all the steering wheel controls connected via iDatalink Maestro RR, works great. You can use the factory dash mounted USB, and the factory satellite antenna.
The new hi def screen is really cool, even the backup camera look better. Thanks for the compliment, I am really happy with this system.

I would go with Kenwood Excelon or Alpine. Not difficult at all to replace.....you can get harnesses that will keep your camera and steering wheel controls and will leave the factory wiring intact. And if you want to add an amp to replace the factory amp, there is a harness for that as well. I have replaced everything audio related in my truck including added subs and could take it back to stock in about an hour and a half if was going to trade vehicles.

once you know the steps you could have the factory radio out in less than 10 minutes....maybe 5

    A bunch
Check out Tech12Volts and their Tundra packages. I got a group buy one from them that had an amplifier, door speakers, and subwoofer and it has the sound exactly where I want it. The stock amp in the Tundra is the problem, along with the lack of a sub in many trims and these packages solve both.

Where did you locate the Maestro? Is that required to maintain factory steering wheel, USB port, and camera? Does that allow FLAC through the factory USB port?

What's the difference between the harness and the Maestro that @ScottB is using?

I'm fine with the volume of my current setup [for now] but I hate that the stock head unit freezes and restarts randomly. I want clarity over volume.
