“The goal of modern truck grilles,” wrote Jalopnik’s Jason Torchinsky in 2018, “seems to be… about creating a massive, brutal face of rage..."

By "brutal face of rage" are they talking about 3rd gen owners who have to look at that grille?
    :rimshot: yeah I said it!

As a kid, we went everywhere on Ford F-100 Single cab truck. Both parents and two kids, in the front seat no seat belts no air bags. In this particular model the gas tank was behind the seat back, inside the cab.

On deer hunts, me and my brother would travel in the bed.

These days you would never get away with any of that. For the record neither me or my brother ever sat in a kid's car seat growing up.

That was a good truck, we abused the hell out of it.

Sounds like my childhood. Taking 3 hour trips in an 83 F100 single cab. Both parents and three boys. Sometimes we would ride in the bed.

I'm not wasting my time reading an article most likely written by someone who has never seen trees that weren't planted by humans. The story is, trucks were work trucks until manufacturers started adding comfort features (I think Ford was the first, but that's just a guess based on my memory of the first King Ranch model). They were so popular, the manufacturers built more and more trucks with the comfort features, and people kept buying them. I'm not forcing the city folk to buy them. They should just shut up and leave us country folks alone.

I don't need to read it. How do I say this without violating the COC?...The article wasn't written in the spirit of the scientific method. It was written to substantiate the hypothesis.

You certainly dont have to read it to imagine what it says but you also can not comment about it without reading it either?

The simple truth is just what it is,trucks in general are just not what they used to be,but then what really is?

I might have to go back to MiniVans.

    I can comment apparently...
I read headlines and ID sources all the time. When I read the article, it usually ends up where I thought it would.
But, I hear you. I'll read it now.

Obviously you can and have it if not having read it before commenting it is not worth a lot either?

What kills me about the article is the idea that people seem to care what others think about choices that they make?
I will never get used to this though it seems to be the norm these days.

    Talk about over compensating.

I agree 100%. You are also not wrong on the other stuff. I'm just a gambler who likes to predict. So many tells here. The reason for the post, the title of the article or the quote, the source, etc.

I can comment on what trucks have become.

They’re a product wives buy to posture their husbands as men. Which is why as overpowered and stout as they are, its never enough. Never will be.

and you need screens electrics and remote start.

    All this ^^^.

Now add that because of C.A.F.E. car designs have gotten just nutz with the seating positions. Even my 2016 Corolla (bought for daughter) was such a dang "rocket ship" seating position I almost had to be pulled by the hand to get out of the thing. So America is older. Car seats suck getting into and out of (due to C.A.F.E. that has produced crazy aerodynamic designs and related "features") and trucks are EASY to get in and out of. End Of Story.

    Want some thoughts on Bitcoin???

You might also say that the internet idea of overlanding has become a frenzy on social media. One that has helped create 50-100K $ builds that will go camping once.

That article was devoid of any useful information and was written by the type of beta male soy boy who wants everyone else to have to live their life in a way that doesn’t make him feel threatened. The author should probably consider locking himself in his house so all the scary things going on in free society don’t theoretically have a chance of hurting him.

I’m in awe at how many ‘new’ trucks have burnt out lights. I like to joke that its been downhill since electric starters and took a nosedive with plastic headlights. But i think the real dates are closer to downhill from late 90’s and nosedive in either ‘04, ‘12, or ‘16, depending on brand.
