What do your tires measure after being installed?

Hey all, hope everyone is doing good. My question is, “What do your tires measure on your truck?” About 3 months ago I went from 275/70/18 (33.23”) Cooper Discover AT3 XLTs to the 285/75/18s (34.84) in the same tire. Overall I’m pleased with the tires, but the new tires only measure 33 1/2”, not the 35” they’re advertised as. For about the past month this has really started to bother me. Don’t get me wrong - I’ve lied about something being an inch bigger than what it really is :spy:, but now that it’s happened to me and involves my tires I’m pissed.
A couple of days ago I stopped by Discount Tires and the tech rolled out a Toyo AT2 for comparison. Sure enough the tire was noticeably larger, but the tech said once it was inflated and installed with the weight of the truck the difference wouldn’t be as noticeable. Fair enough, and I do understand that manufacturers of all things fudge their numbers a bit, but I’m still annoyed.
    Any thoughts?

Jack up your truck and measure a tire without any weight on it.

Hadn’t thought of that. I guess I can measure the spare under the truck, as well.

Tires are always listed with measurements before inflation and mounting with weight on them.

So losing some size is normal then?
Does it stand to reason that if I want the tires to measure 35” installed then I’d order 37s?
Also, I can see why the front tires might lose a bit with the weight of the engine but the rear tires have significantly less weight.

Mine are the same. About 1” - 1 1/2” less than the advertised size when measured on the truck.

That’s good to know. I’m glad I asked because I needed some closure. Like I said, I like the tires and they look good on the truck but it’s been sticking in my craw for a bit that there’s an 1 1/2” difference. My coworker has an F250 diesel with 35 x 12.5 x 20s and his look like a true 35

same with mine. i have 295/60/20 ridge grapplers. they should be 34", but at 32 psi, they measured 33". now, i keep them at 40 psi and they measure 33.5".

Yes that is normal. Most sites will list the unmounted measurements.

It is simple, when the tires are mounted and inflated, the side walls expand out which pulls the tread side in. This causes the overall diameter to be reduced.
