This was difficult. I like a lot of things, and dislike a few things too.

    What I like the most:
It’s typical Toyota - simple and durable. For a brand new 2022 refresh it is still not as complex as the Big 3. Some may find this a turn off but I don’t. In fact, I wouldn’t be mad if it had even fewer tech goodies.

    What I like the least:
Minor issues (squeaks, ticks, rattles) exist and are not taken seriously by the dealers.

    Bonus Like:
I think it is the best looking 2022 truck on the market, too.

I would type out a lengthier reply… or I could just say: my thoughts exactly.

Edit: Oh, and that SR looks dang good.

I like that it has plenty of power and seems to do a good job of putting it to the ground. I'm pretty happy with my mts modes and the locking rear diff.

Dislikes: all the bullshit that I had to pay for to get it. If they had an SR with the TRD offroad drive train and a 32 gallon tank I would be set, $10k richer, and probably more inclined to buy another Toyota after the assraping they deliver with regards to your remote start being subscription.

Pretty much love everything about my CM Limited 4x4. It has every option including auto rear load leveling option.

The thing I dislike most is rear locking diff only works in 4L and it is only available with TRD OR pkg. Why can’t Toyota make it available in all trims, and let ot work all the time in 2WD and 4H? Awesome to have on wet roads with tons of torque and a light rear end. I know it is critical for serious off roading but very useful in climates like we have in the Midwest. It’s why I passed on TRD OR pkg and opted for rear load leveling suspension. Then switched to TRD wheels and black fender flares to get TRD Off Road look. Rear locking diff is only thing I wish I had.

dislike how the center console has no place for me to play drums on to songs without it sounding like plastic

Love: the tech refresh, Toyota put everything into the truck. Camera showing bed, panoramic roof, smooth ride, and that seat support that goes under your knees

ehh: some minor rattles I noticed. I only have 300 miles on it so we'll see if it becomes a problem or not. The camera or screen could be higher resolution. I have an X5 and it's crystal clear for a $70K truck I want the same.

don't love: the camera rear view mirror makes me nauseous so I turned it off. The HUD is a little blurry. HUD nav is weird. Subscription isn't one price to get all features (remote start, etc)

I dislike how when I shift into park the passenger doors do not unlock. I messed with the settings, unplugged the battery.. still when in park the other doors do not unlock after the driver door is opened. Tired this while running and when truck is turned off !

Pretty sure this is an option the dealer can change for you, or if you have the Techstream Software, you can do it yourself (like I had done to my '22)

I'm wondering if it's an anti-glare protector on the screen. I read someone say they it can be replaced easily... I'll check it out. The X5 screen is definitely smaller and not as many options, purely just the clarity.

the locker working outside of 4 low would not be good, its meant for traction at low speeds off-road. Turning would be a disaster at high speeds with the rear locked.

    Like: Pretty much everything.

Dislike: It almost has too much tech for me. I have confidence in the mechanical reliability. The tech, not so much. The whole smartphone app, over the air updates etc all seem like planned obsolescence. It does make me wonder if in 10 or 15 years whether or not my truck will still be usable or if they'll just stop support, thus trying to force me into a new vehicle.

Likes: power, 360 cameras and digital rear view mirror. Also - fuel economy. Although it's not mind blowing good - I'm only about 2mpg worse than my 2012 4cyl Tacoma, with way more power and comfort. Off-road capability has been pretty solid for stock TRD OR trim.

Dislikes: I've had bad luck. Rear ended on 4th day I had it (minor damage but super annoying), then exactly a month later took a large rock to the windshield, and three months after that I hit a deer. Also, unpredictable throttle makes me really uncomfortable when turning into traffic from parking lots etc.

Overall I like the styling in and out. The truck looks best with paint match surround and the heritage grill.

The truck is comfortable. Good overall ride quality on the stock suspension (I have a TRD off-road) both on and off pavement. The truck has also been excellent off road and towing with it is also very good.

    Love my heated steering wheel.

I both really like the size of the truck and dislike it at the same time. I have the crewmax with 6.5 foot bed and it's great and spacious for the family, especially nice on long trips, but can be a pain in tighter areas both in a parking lot and on the trail. Having come from a Tacoma and also owning a 4runner, I don't know if I will ever get used to the size and at the same time I doubt I can ever go back to a Tacoma due to the interior size difference. Another love/hate is the LED lights. They are nice and bright and generally very good, but they can ice up in a winter storm. My final love/hate is with Toyota safety sense. It's super nice to have some of the standard features like adaptive cruise control, but why does it have to beep at me so much! A blade of grass beep beep beep, shut the door beep beep beep, car seats in the back - beep beep beep....

Dislikes - some of the trim pieces are pretty cheap/plasticy for my liking. I think overall Toyota missed a number of little things such as USB in the back standard, bed step standard, something better than a 400 watt inverter - all of which would make the truck a little bit better and set it apart from other trucks on the market especially at lower trims.

Like: all the cameras, absolute gamechanger. tow mirrors. the power, pulls like a train. love the ergonomics, fits like a truck not a grocery getter. the 14" screen that I thought was ridiculous at first, now its minimum size requirement. main gauges and ability to customize them (slightly). trailer brake works great so far. on snow covered roads in 4hi its an absolute blast to drive (my wife would disagree)

dislike. lack of 4auto and tow hooks. windows that don't open with the tiniest bit of snow/ice buildup. pass side door/window insane wind noise that just gets worse. lack of bumper step. turning radius. poor hvac flow. paint that easily chips. 1980's traction control. remote start app is slow and flaky. the key fob remote start is slow and flaky and zero range.

overall experience, I'd still take it #1 over my 2020 f150 lariat and 2018 gm sierra denali. No regrets about my first Toyota.

Way back I had a 2002 tacoma. In 10 minutes you could rewire the locker to work anytime. I put 150k on that truck with a ton of 2hi locked miles in excess of 60 mph. Never a single issue.
Its not because the truck can't handle the added strain.

Agree with the remote start, it's silly. Should be able to control temps in the app too.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about that. Over the air updates are fantastic. Easily push fixes, reduce traffic to dealership mx when you can send a tech flash over the air. Focused on revenue generating work, removes wasteful appointments that impact people who actual need a technician.

Agree if it is a true locking diff. I assumed, maybe incorrectly, it is more of a limited slip from a few videos I saw where it shifted power to both rear wheels but it didn’t look like they where turning at the same speed. I remember the old Detroit lockers that made all kinds of noise ratcheting around turns on dry pavement. Ive also seem some aftermarket true lockers for 4x4 applications, just haven’t seen OEM lockers in half ton segment for a very long time. Most have gone to limited slip for the very reason you stated.

My list will likely change over time as it's still in the break-in period and it's my first Tundra. However, I've had just about every other full-size truck out there over the past few decades. I figured I was overdue to try out a Toyota.

There are always going to be the usual "quirks" and issues that are simply part of ownership. Such as no auto 4WD, a few too many cheap "pre-production-looking" plastics, the widely criticized piano black trim pieces, fake engine sound you can't turn off, etc.

And, of course, we're still somewhat early in the 3rd gen production cycle - "bugs" are to be expected. In either case, based on initial impressions, it should hopefully be a solid vehicle. Even though it is going in for its first service soon for some minor stuff. Nothing is perfect.

2023 Tundra Limited Hybrid iForce Max 4x4 (6.5' bed)

    PROS

    • Powerful Hybrid Powertrain
    • Large infotainment screen
    • Solid JBL 12-speaker sound system
    • Rugged & modern exterior appearance
    • Descent performance
    • Good purchase & resale value
    • Lower running costs (e.g., 87 octane)
    • Useful tech (PVM, LEDs, Digital mirror, etc.)
    • Solid towing numbers
    • Large 32.2 Gal fuel tank
    • Full-size truck practicality
    • Toyota reliability? TBD
    CONS
    • No Auto 4WD
    • Cheap plastic interior bits, piano black, etc
    • Rough truck-like ride and handling
    • Limited interior storage (Hybrid model)
    • Fake "1980's arcade racing sim" engine sound
    • Firm seats - could be more comfortable
    • Undersized factory tires
    • Mediocre real-world fuel economy? Also TBD.

I will closely mirror @user4892 with just a few changes:

Ours is 1794 non-hybrid, Nov 11 2022 build date. 100 miles on odo.

As for pros: The powertrain is powerful and seems solid. The trans shifts well even though I do notice some hunting at the slow roll...see another thread on this topic. But IMHO it's not bad enough to make this complaint further than "I wish it was better but I'm fine living with it". And of course Toyota reliability is TBD on this one.

As for cons: I really don't notice the cheap plastic interior parts. So far I'm finding them just fine frankly. The mysterious breaking drivers seat plastic thingy, on our 1794 there is a metal support on the front of that piece, seems like Toyota has fixed the breaking bit. Seats, well so far I'm fine with them and still in the break in period so I expect them to soften up as time goes on. Fake engine sound...I'm actually getting to like it as odd as that sounds. My wife wants it turned off and we'll probably do that next time to the dealer, so I'll likely then say I'm glad it's off. But for now it's almost cool :eek2:. Yea, the factory wheel/tire choice is not good, 20 inch wheel with 60 profile tires on an off road, give me a break Toyota. But when the OEM tires wear out they'll get replaced with 35's and the 20 inch wheel problem will be diminished. As for fuel economy, I think this just shows that the 22/19 mpg is just about what it takes to move 5500 - 6000 pounds around town as our mpg is typical of other modern half ton trucks. But I'm still trying to figure out why the hybrid only gets 1 mpg better than the non-turbo. Seems like ya'll hybrid owners got shorted on that one.

I should also state a surprise to me: my wife really really likes the truck, says it's "comfy and cozy". I figured she would like it, who doesn't like a nice truck, but she's gone for it big time...."happy wife happy life". :)

I think its a true locker.

Im getting a platinum so it doesnt matter anyway, it would be nice if you could get that in the platinum, just because I want all teh bells and whistles doesnt mean I don't want a locker toyota, the ALSD thing is ok, but not as good.

or a real LSD like my ram had, that was fine too, worked good.
