The Circus (1928). Max. An entertaining Chaplain ‘silent’ film. The Tramp gets his heart broken.

 

City Lights (1931). Max. The Tramp enjoys a happy ending.

 

Haha. I see what you did there.

 

The Lodger (1927). Max. Hitchcock’s first suspense film. Also his third full length film and one of ten silent films he made before switching to talkies.

 

The Deer Hunter (1978). Prime. This film was long and intense but worthy of it’s five Oscars. The Mrs wanted to watch it and I had forgot most of it, having watched it during grade school age. DeNiro looked like a badass with a mustache and beard. He should have kept it.

 

The Gold Rush (1925). Max. The Tramp joins the Alaskan gold Rush. Considered by some to be the funniest silent film; I did not find it that funny.

 

The General (1926). Prime. Very entertaining. Amazing that Buster Keaton did all his stunts.

The Phantom of the Opera (1925). Tubi. Hokey love story and abrupt ending; not a fan. I did enjoy the play and soundtrack when it came to San Diego, circa 1995.

 

Wrapped up the Pillowcase Murders and the Ashley Madison documentary on NF.

 

It's great, could never be remade.

 

Thre Deer Hunter was the last book I read.
I read it in 1979...

 

I finally finished Ripley.
I kept falling asleep.
It was ok, I don't regret sticking with it.

At first, I knew the Ripley actor from somewhere but couldn't figure out where..
After some Googling I saw him in Fleabag.

Seven Samurai (1954). Max. A classic, considered by many to be the best Japanese movie. Inspired The Magnificent Seven.

Yojimbo (1961) Max. Another Japanese classic: a ronin plays two criminal factions against each other.

 

Modern Times (1936). Max. Charlie Chaplin’s last silent movie and end of the Tramp character. Ok movie.

The Great Dictator (1940). Max. Charlie Chaplin’s first talkie and a good funny film.

 

Sound oddly familiar

 

Intolerance (1916). Tubi. Quite an endeavor, putting four stories together. Impressive set designs for the Babylon story. But it was annoying switching back and forth instead of showing each story intact before moving on to the next. I enjoyed the Babylon story the most and was rootin’ on the Mountain Girl character.

 

Mr Smith Goes to Washington (1939). Classic Film Time. Good performance by James Stewart.

My family and I decided to watch the MCU saga. We have a hard time all agreeing on something together so this became a hit through the first several movies. We are watching everything except the Guardians of the Galaxy (because my wife can't stand those characters) but we just finished Dr.Strange and started Spiderman Homecoming.

 

Archie - a biography of Cary Grant. Wife loved it.

 

Stagecoach (1939). Max. John Ford’s first talkie western. This film is considered John Wayne’s breakout role as a sought-after actor. Good action film with few dull moments.

 

Guardians of the galaxy has probably become my favorite installment in the MCU lineup, with the exception of the Iron Man’s. It does get a little over the top with the characters but the soundtracks are amazing. I watched them a second time and enjoyed it so much more the second time around…..

 

Don’t forget Deadpool, funny fringe part of MCU. Not for young children!

 

I really like the Guardians for the same reasons and Deadpool is one of my favorites but I have a 10 year old and like you said it just isn't in the family viewing cards!!!

Started Thor: Ragnarok last night.

 

La Grande Illusion (1937). OK website, A French WWI film favored by film historians. I really got into it following the prison escape.

The Dead Don't Die (2019). Max. A bit silly but I enjoyed something a bit different.

1937 would be a WW1 movie. I'm a rivet counter, just pokin' ya.
I had not heard of this movie, looks interesting.

 

Aha. Typo. To avoid paying for the Prime streaming fee, I could only find it online with English subtitles.

 

The Maltese Falcon (1941). Tubi. Highly regarded but winner of no Oscars. I concur as I was not overly impressed.
