I have a 2019 tundra with a Setrab 15 row cooler. I’ve looked almost everywhere for numbers showing safe TC and pan temps for the Tundra but can’t find any. My OBD scanner shows significant heat growth when the TC unlocks while towing, but the pan stays comparatively cool.

I would like to know the worry numbers so I can see if/how fast I approach it.

    1. Does Toyota publish a number showing maximum safe temps for:

    A. the pan
    B. torque converter?

    Thanks.

I’ve read this thread and searched others. There doesn’t appear to be published “safe” temps aside from when the high trans temp lamp that illuminates (which I’ve read is just over 300 degs). I like to monitor temps as I tow but it’s not completely useful unless I there’s a reasonable toyota standard that’s not 300 degrees.

Does anyone know if the tranny overheat lamp illuminates when the the oil is too hot at the torque converter or the pan or either?

Highest pan temp I’ve seen with a cooler is 206F

I tend to run around 211-217 while towing my 8k lbs TT at 65-70mph in the hills or with a headwind. Per Genuine Cooling, 221* is the magic number in the pan and is where the WS fluid begins to degrade. "Begins" is the key word.

Pre cooler I was running 235-250*. Coolant temp runs between 188 and 199*. Inquired about the larger cooler Genuine is offering and his take was not to bother unless running above 221.
