Follow up: Here's him working through the Tundra he used for the swap.

Got a non-running truck with only a description of symptoms. He goes straight for the T-belt before going any deeper! May that make @shifty` proud! Just close your eyes when he sets the new belt in the sand/dirt. Annnd when he sticks pliers on the cam pulley bolts.

Only 176K on the ODO? Dear god.

Saw this but didn’t watch it, thought for sure it would have been a 5.7l. Rad to see people do stuff with the 2UZ

So did I. The 5.7 would have been an even tighter fit!

For sure! As much as I love the 4.7 I can't argue with the 500+ hp from a supercharged 5.7

Fun video. So, luckily he didn’t have bent rods.

Looking for some of you to further my education on interference engines. I know based on factors such as RPMs, a broken belt won’t always ruin the engine, but I thought it was a high probability. Particularly at much of anything beyond idle.

I’ve had a mechanic try to tell me when he was a Toyota tech it was not a problem for the timing belts to break, ie. - he was saying in effect it is not an interference engine. I cringed.

Is there any more context for a novice mechanic like myself to understand the magnitude/probability of the “interference” happening should the belt break?

The VVTi 2UZs are interference. Albeit only moderately so, in my basic understanding for Tundras that are 05+. The previous non-VVTi are not interference.

Thank you. I was unaware of the distinction between the VVTi and non VVTi. I thought all the 2UZs were interference. Have the 2UZ in a GX470 also. Fun ride, but not better than the Tundra

Thats a 4th gen 4R frame, which was also available with the 2UZ engine.
Did he swap the engine from a tundra into a 4R chassis that came with the 1GR?
As soon as i saw the hilux and you said tundra engine, i noticed the wheelbase and speculated it was going to be on a 4R chassis which it is per the video.
