Found a brand new (old truck) 2021 5.7 CrewMax SR5 TRD Off Road Tundra siting in a dealership in Texas. Snagged it before anyone realized what a gem this is. And is perfect as I don't care for the 3rd generation. $43K after taxes and paper work. It beats the $71K for a 3rd generation :) This is my second Tundra next to the 2013 with 120K miles on it.

That is the best deal on a 1/2 ton in US..... Unbelievable. Great job. I was offered $48K for my 2021 with 12K miles. Someone at the dealer missed a button somewhere.

Damn, smoking deal. That's less than just about any used Tundra with at least 30k miles I've seen.

No idea brother, all I know is my jaw just dropped when I run into it. Pure and absolute luck and I wish I got a lottery ticket the same day :) Looking at the Carfax it was initially available at some dealer in California in 2022 then sold at an action to a dealer in Burleson in October 2023. I was afraid that is some kind of lemon or something like that but the truck is spanking new and it just sat around for 2 years I guess waiting specifically for me :) O well, I took it home immediately.

Nope, warranty started officially yesterday as I am the first owner to drive it off the lot. It is 3 years or 36K and we called the HQ to make sure this info is accurate. I plan to extend it from Jerry today to 10Y/125K miles.

That's awesome. I'm shocked that thing has sat for so long considering the new/used car market over the past 2 years. Since that oil has sat in the pan, I wonder if they changed it any.

Good call and thanks. Yes they did change the oil and I asked them to do a detailed multi point inspection as well as do all the TSB's and recalls. They did update some transmission firmware and the head unit as well. I do plan to take into my local dealership at 5000 miles to redo all of that again. Also for some reason due to the chip shortage this truck got only one remote at delivery. Speaking with the HQ yesterday they will be sending me a second remote to my local dealer so they can program it.

This is awesome. But does beg the question “why was a brand new truck sent to auction?” Especially in a time when there were dealer markups and nobody could keep these in stock….

Congrats @JohnWhicker that's a nice truck and I am sure the miles are rolling in as we speak....

@shawn474 I spoke with some friends who at different times in their life stage worked at a dealership/auction place/3rd party independent shops all conclude something along the line of:

    It just did.

Given that the interior of a 2.5G is outdated, there are some that are willing to drop some serious cash for a 3rd G when it came out, and for some, it did not disappoint. For some more, it did not sit well, but I would say each to it's own. So with 3rd G and running wild, 2.5G took a backseat and joined the ride.
If I had to take a guess, the original CA location might be a smaller one, so with gas prices being in the sky (my parents came visit and landed in Houston last night was complaining how my gas is $2.55/G while theirs haven't seen below $5/G for a year....) trucks are not necessary something someone would just walk in and buy and run with it. If anything, they might be geared toward more to hybrid and smaller sized, such as SUVs and all that. Again, not necessary my cup of tea, but in reality, money talks and money hurts. If you get a truck with 38G tank and run it empty, it does take 32G (did that once, never again) and with prices of $5/G+? that's $150+ right there and talk about maintaining and parts and all that, things add up.
There are still some TX dealerships in smaller/rural areas that may have a good truck sitting, waiting for the right person to come strolling in and checking it out, price might even be $4-6K under MSRP for all you know.
I just think that OP got a real stroke of luck on finding and made the right decision to take it home right away.

EDIT: as to why sending a brand new truck to auction? Sometimes it is just to "move numbers" for dealerships. Not often, but once in a blue moon they do that, or like @JohnWhicker stated below, the original dealership might be under financial stress and needed to offload to get some quick cash before going under, who know. Keep rolling and get that extended warranty soon so you are worry-free, mostly.

That is the same question I asked and nobody had a good answer for it. Is a mystery the way I look at this. That's the reason I was very very suspicious about the history of this truck but everything checked out. The dealer I got it from Dallas told me that is possible that the previous dealer had some financial issue and had to unload some inventory through auctions or there was some issues with the inventory paper works and this truck got lost in translation somewhere. Either way it don't make any sense to me and I give up on connecting the dots since the truck checks out, is new, runs great, under manufacturer warranty and about to extend to Platinum warranty today or tomorrow.

The motives for getting this is 1. I can't stand the 3rd G, sorry and I don't mean this as an insult, and then 2. is pricing, a 3rd G is around $70-75K where this is was close to $40K and 3. reliability as this is one of best made Tundra trucks as I already have a 2nd G in my garage.

It could be the truck was sitting a long time and waiting for its defective steering rack to be replaced.

Could be? This dealer told me that all recalls and TSB have been addressed on this truck. I was not aware of the steering rack one. Is that for a specific VIN range or all 2021 2.5 Gen Tundras. How do I check?
