The time has come and my Tundra is going away. It has been a great truck and I've really enjoyed building it but I had the opportunity to buy something else that I couldn't pass up. I usually swap out my vehicles/motorcycles yearly (or sooner) and the Tundra lasted over two years, which is a record for me!

The decision did not come easy but I had a chance to replace it with something 17 years newer, less miles, bigger engine, all for a smoking deal. It was such a good deal, I could not walk away from it. I considered keeping all three trucks but it just does not make any sense, nor do I have the room for them.

The good news is, I was getting ready to put it for sale when my mother called me and asked if that is something my dad would want to have. He currently drives a 2018 or 2019 Tundra but has been looking for a little Toyota to take back and forth to work. A few weeks ago, we went and looked at '82 Toyota pickup that had been sitting in someone's backyard for 10+ years, obviously needed a lot of work, motor had been partially swapped with a 22RE but the harness was cut, etc for $1000. He almost picked it up when I convinced that in the end, it probably wouldn't be worth the cost to fix and he would have a never ending project working out all the kinks. At that time, I offered him my truck but being a dad, he said he didn't want it. He only said that because he knew I would sell it to him for a stupid cheap price and he wanted me to get more money for it. I explained to my mom the situation and told her I would only accept a certain amount for it and I wasn't going to accept a penny over that. She came by today with a check and we are going to surprise him tomorrow with it.

I've truly enjoyed being apart of this forum, learning, sharing information, getting to know you guys, etc. I'll stick around since she's staying in the family but won't be as active as before. Anyways, here's a quick timeline of the Tundra and a picture of the new ride!

Bummer. Hope you drop by once in a while just for fun.

If it was black you never would have sold it.

Well, our loss may be a GM forums gain. I've enjoyed your clear, insightful contributions. Your father has obviously taken possession of a beautiful truck. If he has any concerns or issues with it maybe we'll see you or him around.

I assume you’ll be back in a year or so when the 1500 gets traded in for another Tundra ;) best of luck with your trucks in the meantime

I hope you stick around as I think it's great to get information about another manufacturer , ie : what's better about it and what's not as good about it .

Appreciate everyone on here! I've really enjoyed how active this forum is, especially for such an old truck. I've learned so much about this truck and still want to offer my knowledge on helping others.

I do plan on sticking around and updating any major changes to the Tundra. Honestly, it has everything my old man would ever want/need so I doubt he will be doing anything else to it. It's going to match his new Tundra as well since they are both white. I'm happy that I am in a position to be able to do this for him because there was a time that I was living pay check to pay check (or past that) and he was always there to help me out. He's hooked me up on many car deals in the past and this is the LEAST I could to repay him. The best part is, I will be able to buy it back should he ever want to sell it lol.

Yeah it all worked out for everyone. I got an upgrade, he got a nice truck and I still get to see it/drive it every once in awhile. He gets back from his trip today so he will finally be able to start driving it.

There's some truth there lol! We have already made an agreement, if/when he decides to get sell it, I get it back lol.

I will say, I run a fleet of equipment for my job. Everything from tiny tool trailers, all the way up to 110K lb + excavators and everything in between. We currently have Ford, Dodge and GM for vehicles. The GM trucks hands down have been the most reliable trucks we have owned and have required the least amount of maintenance; BY FAR. Dodge has been the worst and Ford is a close second. The fords are pretty consistent on what goes bad on them but the Ram's have been all over the place. Starters, alternators, fuel pumps, power distribution blocks, HVAC issues, exhaust manifolds, etc. You name it, it's probably gone bad on a RAM. This is just got the gas trucks, don't get me started on the diesels. Hell, I have a RAM in the shop right now that shit the transmission at 99K.

I won't say that our guys aren't hard on these trucks because they can be, but the GM's have held up so much better than the others. Hell, my old Tundra rode and sounded better than these dodges/fords with 100K miles.
