I’m sure that this has been a topic of discussion before, but what can be done about the weird shifting that some Tundras tend to have? When I step on gas, the rpms jump, but the truck seems to be deciding on a gear and finally just takes off after a brief pause. I’ve been going to the dealer back and forth to figure this out and they say it’s normal for it being fly by wire. Keep in mind that when I first got the truck, it used to take off pretty darn quick without deciding on a gear and I could not feel it shifting then so I don’t know what has changed.

First think I would do is drain and fill the trans fluid. Not a flush, just drain and fill. Who know if it has ever been done or how long ago any service was performed.

Other maintenance on the truck up to date, MAF cleaning, plugs, filters?

    Pretty things
Yep. Would start by verifying the correct amount of ATF is in the transmission. There is a funky procedure which involves getting the ATF to a certain temperature and opening the overflow. Just search "2nd gen tundra transmission drain and fill"

So basically, I would start with a drain and fill as well. It will give you an idea of the fluids current condition, and you will be able to confirm the correct level so long as the procedure is followed.

Genuine toyota "WS ATF" is recommended.

Mine does this at slow speeds. Like when the light turns green right before I'm at a complete stop. It's like the transmission is forcing 1st gear and ends up revving way up before going to 2nd gear. I never have any problems from a complete stop. Only when crawling.
