    Hello All,

I need some help. I took my Tundra off-roading this past weekend and need information on what this noise might be. After I lose traction and make it up the rock, you can hear the sound. We have no idea what it is... Any thoughts or concerns?

Yup, related to power steering is my guess. Right near full lock not moving very fast that is pretty common in my truck

Is it belt-driven? Not electric pump?

Yup, I have heard it on my truck. I can force it to happen, just sitting still, I can turn to full lock and right when I touch the steering stop it will squeal before the pump turns off or however it works.

Not really a concern no. The pump gets driven by the belt and when the pump hits extra resistance (like a rock or steering stop) the belt will slip on the pulley and squeal. It is normal to happen occasionally (especially offroad), but if it becomes a common occurrence when you are street driving, your belt might be worn and then it could become a real problem.

There's a belt tensioner for that.

Well that is very helpful. Just curious, (not that I do not trust you!) how confident are you that that is the sound we are hearing?

Not very . It is the right sound and it makes sense for the situation of the video but it could be any number of other things

Ha! Well that makes sense to me. I appreciate you taking the time to read and watch. If this were your Tundra, what would you do? Keep in mind, I off-roaded another 2 hours and drove 3 hours home, seems fine....
