    Hello

I stopped by Toyota today to get some crush washers and diff oil for some maintenance that's coming up in a couple of months.

I got a strange container, I've never seen one like this for automotive lubricants:

The top is hard, like a grocery store can.

The guy at Toyota suggested I make a small hole in it to get my pump into it, but that sounds weird to me.

What do people typically do with these cans? The fluid needs to be pumped up into the diff. Should I move it into a used motor oil bottle?

Next you’ll say you’ve never seen Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup in such a can.

It’s just an old school oil can. Back in the day before the prevalence of plastic bottles that is what all oil came in.

Not sure why Toyota still uses them.

I have an empty old bottle of each small and large openings that I use for instances like this.

Amsoil has "easy pack" containers for diff and gear. They're fantastic.

    This ^^^.

Though I used Red Line gear oil when I did mine. Along with a small transfer pump from Lowes.

Can I fill those containers with my own stuff? It's not immediately obvious from the Amsoil website.

It's a squeeze bag so I think it'd need to be pressurized to fill - let alone getting every bit of the old product out.

I would pour that into a clean, liter bottle and use the pump to pump from the bottle.

I'm still got one in my shop. I bet you do too :)

I still have one of these you can rent...although might be tough to get the diffs filled.
