My 2012 2WD Tundra has been having some vibration issues in the drivetrain for the past few months. Its gotten progressively worse with time to the point where I took off the drive shaft to have everything replaced at my friends shop. It took a couple hours and a lot of work but we did everything correctly. I put it back together and now have an even worse vibration. When I get a chance I'm gonna get under the truck and torque everything properly can anyone tell me the torque for the rear four bolts as well as the carrier bearing. I'm hoping that torqueing everything down will fix my issue because now there is an extra vibration that I feel specifically from the rear end at a certain speed. If anybody has any advice please let me know I want to check all possible sources before moving to a transmission problem as this trans was fully rebuilt with only 20K on it now, fluid was a nice color not burnt or anything. She's parked in my driveway for now as I won't drive it until I know that it is safe to drive. I'm stumped haven't had an issue yet that I couldn't solve on my own.

Is it lifted? It doesn’t appear to be from your profile pic and most don’t lift 2wds. Does it vibrate in reverse? Any noise coming from the rear diff? Checked u joints?

New NAPA u-joints, new carrier bearing while I was in there, They were 141K worn needed replacement anyways. I figured that was the issue need to make sure everything is torqued down to be sure that the issue is not related to that. I am praying that torqueing everything will fix my issue. If not then I just spent $360 for no reason at all. No noise from the diff that I'm aware of.

It's lifted 4" with upper control arms. The shaking/vibrating is bad I know it is not the front end because it does not affect my steering at all. Only reason I feel it in the steering wheel is because of how bad it shakes my truck, also how deep is the dust cap part of the drive line supposed to be in the tranny? could I have possibly done something wrong with the install?

When I get a chance I will take a picture, at work right now chose to leave the truck at home just in case this was a torqueing issue didn't want to shake the driveshaft loose.

Yes. It is very common for people to install the carrier bearing upside down. I've personally helped maybe a dozen people on this forum with that exact thing. If you're lifted that much you need a carrier bearing spacer. If you don't have the spacer and you installed it upside down, you can get some serious driveline shudder. One gentleman I helped here had it so bad the driveshaft was smacking the crossmember. The mounting flange is offset from the center of the carrier bearing by over a half inch. If it's upside down, it throws the geometry off.

maybe I'll ask my friend to pass by and take a picture for me. I took the truck for a test drive after install and noticed trans fluis accumalated at the bottom of the dust cap but I was guessing it was excess from the removal of the driveline, if it continues to leak that may be another issue related to improper install or sometime else but I am hoping it is an excess situation. The test drive was fine never vibrated or anything but later on went for a drive and felt the rear end vibration which is what made me think of the torque issue

I need a spacer with only four inches? I was down there and when I took a look at the angle it did come to mind, I have no lift on the rear axle though only a front coil over lift I believe my carrier bearing is installed correctly though I have the single drain hole facing toward the ground and I installed it in the right direction.

My friend is probably gonna pass by my house and torque the rear end for me since I'm at work, I will have him take picture while he is at it so I can upload it I do understand what you're saying though I should've talen a pic while I was down there.

You absolutely need a carrier bearing spacer. I was getting shudder with a 2.5 inch lift/level on my old SR5. If you have a single hole facing the ground, that is correct.

Man I feel like an idiot, truck is 142K all highway miles so the driveline components weren't in the worst shape. Can you describe the shudder you had? Mine isn't from a stop it was from 3o to 40 mph and when it started getting bad I chose not to put it on the highway. Where can I get these spacers, I don't want to get ripped off haven't looked into it.

When I looked into lifts nobody ever mentioned anything about the driveline, I never even stopped to take a look at it, should've asked the forums before rebuilding a driveshaft

Just ordered a carrier bearing spacer kit from rough country, hopefully it will correct the vibrations.

Yeah I have about 3” lift and had shudder. The spacer made it go away. It wasn’t extreme shaking though, just a little shake at take off.

For me it was never at take off it was a shudder when slowly accelerating from 30-40 mph, never showed up in the RPM's it was only felt coming from the drivetrain specifically the rear end carrier bearing towards axle was my assumption.

Same here, any lift has the potential to create a bit of shudder.

I think you need the carrier bearing drop kit, but might also have something else going on. Tires ok? Did any throw weights and get out of balance?

Can't be the tires because I have another set with mud terrains and I felt the exact same shudder so I switched back to the BBS all terrains. Initial thought was balance issue but the problem is that this is too specific I'm not sure if one of the rear wheels could have thrown a weight. Tire wear isn't too bad it is possible that this could be a combination of different causes causing a more noticeable vibration. I can step on the gas full throttle and I wont have vibrations but if i am keeping a slowly increasing speed then I will be able to reproduce vibrations.

You say you have 4 inches of lift up front and none in the back? My shudder was on acceleration from a stop.

3.5" coilover with a .5" spacer in the front, only change in the rear is TRD shocks off a newer tundra.

Thing is when I let off the gas while having the vibration it stops, not sure if it can be wheel weights

The carrier bearing spacer kit from toytec is less than $15, so why not?
    It totally fixed my shudder.
