Hi All. I walked by my truck today and noticed a bunch of scratches on the cab between it and the bed. Turns out the weather strip thingy between the cab and truck was pulled outward instead of folded in. Check out the pictures and you'll see what I mean. I pushed the stripping in where it's supposed to be and was able to buff the scratches out. I suspect it happened when the bed or cab was put on the frame. The driver's side was done correctly and no scratches. My exact build date is 3/1/2022 so I guess it was taco and tequila Tuesday in Texas.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
That's interesting. Wonder if the stripping is for aerodynamic reasons? It will continue ti scratch the paint only in farther. The softer rubber holds dirt and acts as sandpaper against the paint.

On second thought look for some clear protective tape on the paint where the rubber meets. It should have it. Not saying Toyota designed it that way but they should have.

@Retired...finally The strip puts less pressure on the cab in its correct position so that should help. I also like your idea of 3M clear as long-term insurance.

In the up close picture after it was put back, it looks like there might be a clear protective tape where it contacts the cab.

@omglas3r Good eye! I just went out and confirmed you are correct. There is a clear strip in place that protects the cab when the weather strip is in its correct place.

Yes it does have the tape there from factory.

There is a video out there talking about the aero reason this strip is there, but for some reason it can slip outward and you get these little squeaks (like a nest of mice) while driving and the bed is flexing.
