I stopped by my closest dealer, IRA Toyota in Danvers, MA, today to look into buying a Tundra. I am interested in an SR5 with an 8' bed for carrying equipment for my business. I was told by 2 different salesman that the Tundra doesn't come with an 8' bed. I mentioned that I already had an F350 and was looking for a 2nd work truck, so I'm sure they knew I was asking about the Tundra and not the Tacoma.

I walked out confused. When I got home I hopped on the Toyota website and of course they offer an 8' bed. According IRA's inventory they don't have any in stock but several other dealers in the area do. I just can't understand if the sales people or that stupid or simply don't care about making any attempt to sell a vehicle they don't currently have on the lot.

The problem is that I want an SR5 with most every option and none of those available at nearby dealers. Am I out of luck trying to get the truck I want?

    Thanks,

    John

They should be able to find one and dealer trade.

All of the sales people at my local Toyota are also idiots. Pretty bad when you know more about the product they sell then they do...

I had my Tundra built to order. It took a couple months to arrive but I was able to pick and choose my options, I had to go through the service manager to do this. I'd find out who that is and give him a call.

I knew very little about the Tundra when I started shopping, and I knew more than my salesman....

I don't know much about them either but I know they have come with an 8' bed in the past. I just figured they might have stopped making them in the past year or 2 when they told me they were not available which why I didn't question the salesman further.

I knew they did when I was shopping, I owned a silverado WT (8') when I was shopping. The problem as you know the work trucks come pretty bare bone...

When I bought my 2010 SR5, I researched it pretty well, for the different features I was after. While 'checking the boxes', I ordered the Power Rear Slider for my Double Cab. Sales Rep and I went 'round & round' when he told me "I'm" getting mixed-up, because only the Crew Max has a power slider. He finally snapped out of it when the Manager showed him the feature text, on his list.(This Sales Rep was the "Truck Guy") I could've ordered a DC with a 8' bed back then but didn't need it.

So I sent an email to IRA Toyota about my experience. The sales manager emailed me back apologizing. He attached windows stickers of not one but two 8' bed Tundras they have in stock! One is an SR5 with the the $1915 package that mostly fits my needs (definitely need the 38gal tank). His sales people are definitely out to lunch and most likely loosing sales for this dealer.

The Crewmax is not available with an 8 foot bed, but the Double Cab is.

That is all too funny how clueless those Sales guy were because when I was looking for a Tacoma Trd Pro with the Manual 6 speed I had 3 different local dealers clueless Salesmen tell me "oh no they do not come with a manual transmission" then I found a dealer 4 hours South of me who said "Yes Sir we have them in Stock right now what color would you like?" and of course that is where I went and brought it. Same Super White as my Tundra.

You are right it's always more beneficial for new car salesmen to be ignorant about car model variants because they can then try and talk you into buying what ever they have in inventory on the lot. 99.999999% of them are total chuckleheads. Some of the smaller family owned dealerships that have been around for a long time usually are the most knowledgeable about their products. Too few of these around nowadays, everything has gone corporate unfortunately.
You may want to try searching through the Toyota website to see what kind of inventory is out there within a certain radius of your location. When I was looking for my Tundra last summer most of the dealers I talked with told me how "rare" the Pro's where, until I searched the Toyota site for inventory and low and behold 92 of them were sitting at dealerships within a 100 mile radius!
