If you considering installing the auto-up and down aftermarket switches you have to be aware of the fact that they do not auto reverse. This could be cause injury or death to a small child or pet. Toyota's auto switches are designed to auto reverse if something ends up the path of the window on the way up. It was actually part if the PDI that we perform to make sure all the window auto reverse. I purchased a set of these auto switches and after installing them realized they did not auto reverse. To test your switches yourself auto-up the window and as the window is going up, bump your hand down on the window and see if it auto reverses. If you have small children or pets I suggest you do not use the switches.

Moderators, please make this a sticky. Thank you.

Never thought about the reverse safety not working. Makes me feel better about having the factory auto up/down, even if it's only the front windows

Installed the switches only on the driver panel for all windows & the front passenger, I didn’t change out the rear ones.

I may need to remove mine because I often have a lot of Boy Scouts in my truck during camping trips. As a BSA leader, I need to lead by example and eliminate any safety issues from the scouts' environment. What a bummer :(

This behavior only follows the replaced switch, correct? So, mine is only the master switch replaced on the driver's side. The other switches are still the originals. So, let's say if the window is triggered by the original switch (which is not automatic), then it should be safe. I just need to keep an eye on the master switch, I guess. Still not 100% safe as I could easily make a mistake and I am the only driver. I will present this issue / risk to my BSA leaders and make a decision together for full transparency.

If the stock switch isn't automatic to begin with, I don't think this is an issue. You could always test it with a carrot or something.

Yes the replacement switch control will only auto up so someone in the back who fiddles with the switch won't cause an auto up. You would have to trigger the auto up from the driver's door replacement switch.

Never considered this. Good on you for bringing it up.
Today I was actually wondering if my rav4 switches would fit in tundra. They seem a lot smoother than the aftermarket ones I bought for truck.

Replaced all parts with smoked mesquite, and L.E.D bright interior lights.
I have been searching for aftermath auto window switches for my rear passenger windows and master driver switch. For unknown reasons, aftermarket companies don't make auto window switches for 2021 Toyota tundra 1794. I have inform several of my friends with SR5 and limited tundra to check their rear auto switches for auto reverse safety feature. The above article has been valuable and a lesson learn.

If they are not from Toyota then they do not auto reverse so the warning applies to all aftermarket auto reverse switches.

Those are the ones I got. I installed all 4 switch blocks, meaning all 4 doors have auto up/down controls. The new auto switches' LEDs are a slightly darker shade of blue than the OEM interior backlit switchgear, but not terribly so. I like that the lock button is illuminated red... kinda cool! They work just fine but I haven't had them more than a couple weeks. I kept my OEM switches just in case something happens.

Can confirm auto reverse does NOT work.

No disrespect but I would like this thread to stay on topic. It was created as a warning for those who have kids and pets and not a discussion on where to buy switches.

Have a question/observation regarding the function of these switches.. may seem like a silly question, but how do they know when to stop?

Just installed these, and while they all work just fine, I noticed that when you auto up/down it seems like the window motor remains powered. You can see the tension from the motor pushing up on the window, and if you poke the switch in either direction for the non-auto function, you can see the tension from the motor release.

Is this a faulty unit, or does the relay eventually “time out” and cut power?

Tested the 3W module that hooked into the factory switches a lot of people used to get the auto function before these entire switch assemblies were invented. The 3W also failed.

    Please be careful.

This thread is not for posting your switch purchase and install. There is another thread for that purpose. The thread is meant to show that there is the possibility of injury or even death to pets and children who could potentially become trapped when the window automatically goes up (the reason it's a sticky).

FYI, I can confirm that the switches I installed have this concern as well as the others already identified.
