Hello fellow Tundra fans. I have a 2012 Tundra with 5.7 motor. I want to tow a 9000lb trailer and put 4 dirt bikes in bed (I have 8’ bed). I currently tow a 6k lb trailer with bikes in bed with no problems. Can anybody stear me in the right direction to upgrade suspension, etc to handle the heavier trailer. I love this truck and don’t want to buy a 3/4 ton or bigger Thanks!

9,200 lbs is about the max towing on these trucks. 8500lbs plus the weight of 4 bikes will certainly be over 10,000 lbs. Sorry, but to do this safely, you’re in 3/4 ton territory.

True^, i always hear it could tow this, i could tow this. Bottom line if you are over weight it’s unsafe and illegal. If the law catches you, you will learn the hard way.

3/4 ton gas powered rigs are dam reasonably priced nowadays and no i am not knocking on tundras,
But every man needs to know their limits. I love my Tundra, but when I borrow the families 6,000 dry weight toy hauler with a tongue weight of 900lbs, i use the
    Families 3/4 duramax. Safety first!

My Gen 1 with the 4.7 could do that.

Put the dirt bikes in the trailer. 6OO LB tongue weight with 1OOOlb motos is over payload, with no passengers. extra 1000lbs in the trailer only adds about 100lbs to the trailer tongue. You will have payload left over for your passengers.

Did some looking around (first time I ever read owners manual for truck) and discovered the max tow weight for my truck is 9800lb. Max weight of truck/trailer is 16000lbs. Truck itself is rated at 4000lbs front axel and 4100lbs rear axel. My plan is to load up the Mx bikes and family and go to weight station to see where I’m at. That’ll indicate where I’m at with the max weight of 16000lbs and the weight on each axel. Then, I can shop for trailer that is safe weight. Any thoughts on sumo bags to assist with bed weight?

Use a weight distribution hitch. Best choice for suspension sag and improves braking in one shot.
