I think it’s time I start making some upgrades to my tundra. Especially in the tire and lift department. I am not sure really where to start and what to do. I am thinking changing the wheel from 20”s to some 18”s with a bigger tire to make it more of a bulky truck. Fitting some bigger tires is going to require a lift of some sort but I don’t really know which approach to take. THe truck is my daily driver and will use if from time to time on the beach. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am unsure if a 2” leveling kit will meet the requirements to put some 35s. I have a 2014 tss off-road sr5

    @Toytec Lifts.
I got 35s with +18 offset, required some cutting and moving the liner. If you go with larger offset you could avoid the trimming. Check out wheel tire specs thread (link in my sig).

Look under stickied post for tires sizes. I think a 3/1 lift will allow for 295/70 or 285/75 which both are just under a 35" tire. 35" are still do able, but a CMC or BMC will be needed to make room for turning so that there is no rubbing. Not sure but I was told for 35's with no trimming a 6 inch lift is needed. Your offset on the wheels will play a big part too.

Will the +18 offset cause the tires to stick out? I am thinking something to make the tires stick out just a bit and not be flush with the truck. Thanks for the input

put in that address. Put in what you have now, and what you want to put on. It will tell you how much closer to suspension you are with inside, how much further out on the outside, and how much closer to top of wheel well. I think 18+ offset would put you at about 1 inch outside fenders. Not positive.

They’ll stick out about 1-1.5” I believe. I’m on 18x9’s with a +12 offset and mind stick out around 2” or so if I remember correctly on 295/70’s. Will look at the truck in a few to confirm.

To give you an idea on what +18 looks like, here’s a side pic of my recent upgrade. I went with 295/70R18 tires, 18x9 wheels with a +18 offset, and a Toytec 3/1 level kit. Only required minor fender liner trimming.

Can you take pics of where you needed to trim fender lining please. Also what toytec 3/1? Still on fence if I want to lift or leave stock. Your setup looks good!

That is a nice! Have you noticed any difference in the driving since you got the leveling kit? Any difference when you go off-road?

A little of this and a little of that.

@Toytec Lifts is the name of the company and a 3/1 is a 3” lift in the front and 1” lift in the rear = leveling kit. They make awesome products.

Thanks, and sure thing! The pics aren’t the best because the tires are filling up the wheel wells now, but hopefully you’ll still get an idea on how much was trimmed. Basically, had to trim the lower portion of the front plastic liner on the driver and passenger side. Also removed all 4 mudflaps on the truck. I know a lot of people have had success using a heat gun and re-molding the liner to prevent rubbing, but I personally chose to trim it instead.

    Driver’s side:

As far as the level kit, this is the one I ended up going with. I talked to David at ToyTec and based on my needs (daily driver, no towing or off-roading), he recommended this setup. He also recommended I go with the 1.5” block in the rear so I wouldn’t be nose high if I ever did end up hauling or towing something. Even though the rear is still technically 0.5” higher, you don’t notice it when you’re looking at the truck.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks! Honestly, the ride is only slightly stiffer than stock and I don’t notice much difference. The tires have a minimal amount of increased road noise but I think I only notice it because I’m listening for it. Where I’m sure I’ll tell the difference is in my mpg’s. Oh well, I didn’t buy a truck for fuel efficiency ;)

Unfortunately, I can’t help you in the off-road department. My truck is a daily driver and I have no plans to tow or go off-roading.

I used a heat gun and 2x4 to move the front liner out enough to clear. I wanted to try to use the rear mud flapp. It didn’t want to bend as easy as the front so I drilled a hole and used a zip ty to get clearance.

    No rubbing now.

    295/70/18’s on a 3/1.

What kind of lift do you have on your tundra?
