I have a question, has anyone changed their order late in the game.I have been waiting 5 months and I want to change my order from a Limited to a 1794.Will that make my wait longer?

I mean...your dealer never actually "ordered" anything for you so I doubt it will make any difference.

Well when I asked my salesman he said I was second in line, what ever that means.does it mean thats when they start looking for a similar truck?

Second in line for when they get an allocation that's close to what you want basically.

Ask your dealer. I would think they might be others waiting for a 1794 so you would now be behind them. How I would roll if I ran the dealer but ask them.

It depends on how many other people at the dealership are waiting on a 1794…if there’s only one other then yes, you’ll be second in line…if there are more then you’ll be further down the list.

As others have said...you didn't actually "order" anything. If you're salesperson is good then they took your deposit and captured your "wish list" of options and will call you when they get a truck that matches (or nearly matches) your list. That's pretty much it.

With that being said, the important question you asked was "will it make my wait longer?" The simple answer is yes. For the simple fact that the SR5 and Limited are the 2 volume trims for the Tundra. They produce significantly fewer 1794 trucks than Limited trucks. So...think of it this way: Fewer 1794s built + the Toyota allocation system = Longer wait time than sticking with your Limited.

Unless you just can't wait any longer (for whatever reason), I would say wait to get exactly what you want and don't settle. That's just me though. I'm a patient person. :)

At this point I don't mind waiting, just hoping its not another 6 months. They said they would let me know tomorrow. My 2016 Tundra is in great shape not getting rid of it ,just adding the 22.

Not the same thing, but the same basic principle in dealing with car dealerships:

I'm first in line to get catalytic converter parts for my 2014 that has been at the dealership since 11/16/2021, the day after they were stolen.
Every month I call and ask for an update, 'the end of the month' is what they say.
That has happened the last 7 months.

And here I am 216 days later, without my Tundra.

    Moral of this story?
Don't trust what an auto dealership tells you, until it actually happens..:(

Today, ‘order’ is literally putting your name on a list. If the one you want is allocated, and you’re first on the list, congrats, you get first stab at it.

it will depend on a given dealers policy or general operating process so can't generalize. it's possible you will be put in the back of the line for the 1794 or they jump you in front of others which is kinda shady imo. others waiting for 1794 should not be impacted by someone changing their minds. if it was a dealer fault then they should accommodate. for a change of mind, sorry i think you should be put in the back of the line or maybe find another dealer that may have a shorter line or even better...a 1794 allocation and temp vin that you can do a purchase agreement and deposit.

For this reason alone i would wait a little while longer and get the 2023 1794. 2023's will be on ground in Nov.

I’m confused on the allocation process. The last 2 tundra’s I’ve bought 2015 and 2020 have both both been exactly what I sat down with the salesman and said I wanted. I waited 1 1/2 months for the 15 and 2 months for the 20. I was also givin updates during the process. Assembly line, shipping and delivery date. Sure sounds like an order to me. Am I missing something? Has it changed after 2020?

in prior years for allocations inventory managers could tweak options and colors. Not on this gen right now they can't.

Thank you. I understand now. Hopefully after all these covid shortages things can go back to normal.

Right now everything is insane due to Toyota changes and COVID. Supply was impacted due to plant issues and then Toyota has tweaked things that really makes it hard for the 22 Tundra. XP pkg has always been a port installed option an right now it really isn't Along with that for us down at SET it is very very hard to even get a SR5 with softex without getting a TRD PkG. If we see softex and no TRD pkg then it almost 99% of the time is coming in on allocation with a load leveling rear. Just a lot of things are crazy right now.

I think we will begin to see more port options and more allocations as we get into 2023. Unless Covid ramps back up or recession hits hard.

In early 1992 I wanted a Celica GT-S in color black. I put down a $5,000 deposit. And then I waited. And waited. After 6 months I got overly excited and started calling and networking. Got someone at Mama Toyota in Los Angeles. They told me "go to the dock in Long Beach California, wait for the ship from Japan and see what comes down the ramp." Again...........that was in 1992.

Don't reckon a whole lot has changed.

The only reason I was asking,I was told I could change my order until the order was put in.I didn't know every Tundra grade has a separate list.I've been waiting 5 months and they told another 3 to4months before I get the truck. So since I ordered a limited I asked if I could change to a crew max hybrid and I was told that would take 8 more months. Know thats the way it is but it seems absoulty crazy to have to wait over a year for a pick up truck. If I'm on the list and the way I understand it there is no order so if I change my mind why should I be behind someone that might just ordered a 1794,sorry Toyotas system is messed up.

Maybe I'll keep my limited order, then order the 1794. I cant see these trucks losing much value, sell the limited when the 1794 comes in.

Ok I stuck with my limited order. The dealer said my wait will be 3 to 4 months.Which means it will be October, will the truck be a 22 or a 23?
