I am currently at 2 months waiting to get my freaking catalytic converters replaced. Anybody else waiting this long?

I am spending at additional 600.00 a month on a rental, Toyota really needs to step thier game up right now, this is ridiculous.

Cats are being stolen everywhere. High demand units currently.

You're on a waiting list just like everyone was that had the fuel pump recall.

You'll get yours when your name is at the top of the list.

I'm sorry about the rental. Having never had any dealings with warranty work, or dealerships I am no help there.

Have you tried to find any aftermarket cats?

How about salvage yards local to you?

just a couple ideas that might get you up and running again sooner.

good luck and hate to hear of this happening to you.

We’ve had a couple cars a month coming through the shop with stolen cats. Some are a week turnaround, others sit for months waiting on parts.

I wouldn’t do that unless you absolutely have to drive the truck. Friend of mine put aftermarkets on his and Toyota said his engine warranty is now voided.

    Still waiting... getting old.

No aftermarket Toyota Cats for me, insurance is only authorizing OEM for the repair.

I have a 2014, I've been waiting for 4 months with no end in sight. I opened a case with Toyota Corp. I'll let you know what they say. Anyone have a resolution?

Wait times are very very very very very very L.,,,,,,,, O.,,,,,, N. ,,,,, G.!!!:)
one dealer close to me has their lot full of Tundras waiting for CATs. No new vehicles just Tundras waiting for CATs! They have been there months with no timeline as to when they will be fixed. I hear insurance companies are starting to grawfish on rental cars because it has been such a huge cost and that is opening up another can of worms on top of a mess already???

Just put some straight pipes in place of the cats until they come in. Depending on if the cats they took include the ones connected to O2 sensors you might get a CEL but atleast you can drive it.

I think Toyota should be sued with a class action. I’d be the first plaintiff. Anyone interested? I lease mine and am paying for an underivable truck. Toyota offers no solutions or replacement truck in the meantime while waiting for cats. It’s a shame because like everyone’s else on the forum, I really like Toyota and tundras, but this is just wrong!

Just an example of the supply chain is broke.!! This is just not a parts for a vehicle issue it is a lot more than that!!! It ain’t going to get better for a long long time!! Best of luck to those that have had stolen parts off of their Tundra and other vehicles

It is also a Toyota priority issue.
Seems that have plenty of materials to make 2022 catalytic converters, but those with Gen 1, 2, and 2.5 that are stolen are shit out of luck..
I waited 8 months and 5 days for my replacement in my 2014 5.7...

Covering theft is now Toyota's problem? I know this is a major PITA for everyone, but find any manufacturer that can produce the amount of CAT's needed and in record time. Not going to happen.

One problem with cats is they last a long time and do not need to be replaced as often as other parts. Toyota is not going to make a bunch of replacement parts that will just sit in their inventory. Automakers and especially Toyota started the whole GIT thing. That said Toyota knows there is now unprecedented demand for cats and should have stepped up supply. I would think that cats are produced at a third party parts supplier and there may be a capacity issue.

Pretty sure that's why they're getting stolen lol

On the real though I sat on mine for at least a year before I thought about selling them. They went in less than 2 weeks.

Thieves are not selling them as parts. They are selling them to scrap dealers for the metals. I don't think many auto repair shops would buy cats off someone walking in off the street. Anyone who posts cats for sale should be investigated by the local authorities.

I meant they're getting stolen for cash no questions asked ;)

I posted mine for sale and I'm legit so no I don't think everyone should be investigated considering anybody on the down low isn't just spamming for buyers. They already have them.

I still have one side of mine, although the pipes are cut.
I can't find a scrap yard or recycler to buy them in Dallas.
They all said the state made it a huge PITA to do it.
I even had my title and repair invoice to show them they weren't stolen.

Everyone on the online social media selling places are lowballing me, offering $200 for a front and rear cat together.
That is less than the online recyclers that pay for shipping.
That is probably what I'll end up doing..

Has anyone had a stolen '18 - '21 cat replaced recently? The word from my local dealer is there are some 'coming shortly', but delivery keeps being pushed. Or they may be blowing smoke...

    Oh, that brings back memories.....

I dropped my Tundra off at the dealership on 11/16/2021, the day after my cats were stolen.
They said 6 to 8 weeks to get it back.

Then more time passed, getting into early February.
They started telling me the end of the month.

They told me the end of the month for 3 months..
When we got into mid-May, they admitted they had no idea when the parts would show up.

One side arrived in December, the other side arrived in July.

It was 8 months and 5 days before I got my truck back...:(

I hope you don't have to wait that long..

Hmmm. That's sounding uncomfortably familiar. I'm desperately clinging to the hope that due to the massive number of thefts and vehicles waiting for cats, it might not be so long. But I'm probably delusional.

I can't quite shake the idea that there will be a massive class action suit against Toyota in the future...

Do you actually have to go back to Toyota to replace the cats? I've heard of a shop local to me that was able to replace them in a couple days only a few months ago (not sure if that was on a Tundra, though).

My regular mechanic says to stay away from the aftermarket ones, as they don't last. I'd put them in until the OEM ones arrive, but can't convince anyone to cover it. Mind you, they've spent almost $5k on a rental for me so far, so... :notsure:

Sue Toyota because thieves are stealing catalytic converters?
    Aren't they covering your rental?
What more could you ask for?

Toyota isn't covering my rental. The body shop where the truck was parked is. But I'm pretty sure their insurance is covering their costs. And I didn't spend $60k on a truck and $35k on mods (and yes, I know, mods are not Toyota's responsibility) to take a Tahoe with street tires 50 miles into the backcountry to drag a moose out... Now, I'm hoping that when I do head out for moose in October, either the cats will be back in, or I can swap the rental for a pickup, but it won't be my Tundra.

Am I fortunate that I have something to drive? Yes. Am I being treated fairly by the body shop? Absolutely. Should Toyota have done SOMETHING to alert/warn/offer a solution to the fact that their cats were being regularly and constantly stolen? Should they have anticipated that the use of a larger amount of palladium/rhodium/platinum in a very easily accessed location would be a magnet for thieves? This isn't a problem that developed overnight. Even just making thousands of extra cats would have solved the problem (though no, not really). I'll bet thousands of Tundra and Sequoia owners would agree. I'd understand a 6-8 week wait, but it's almost 3 months with no parts in sight, on top of the 3 months the truck was in the shop for body work.

Pretty sure that Toyota does not cover rentals for most of the folks whose cats have been stolen. My local dealership - info from a tech there - with over 20 vehicles in storage, does not, with the exception of a couple of VIP clients. Ultimately: First world problems, I know...
