On a clear day, I can see Seattle from my house.
    Vehicle:
Current RAM 1500 owner waiting for the new Tundra "hybrid."
Simple question, please, about the VIN.
I am trying to locate hybrid version at nearby (within the state) dealerships, but am finding the some dealerships ads are not totally accurate, and it's not until I see the window sticker, if the dealership makes it available online, that I can know for sure.
They always have the VIN in the ads, but not always the window sticker.

My question then, so I can keep my search focused:
In the VIN, which character(s) denotes a hybrid powertrain and what should that character be? I have tried in vain to find a VIN breakdown by character, like the Service Manual would have, but all I've seen are VIN number decoders, which cannot give me that answer.
    So. From the internet:

    Hybrid VINs
    5TFJC5EC1NX001135
    5TFJC5ECXNX001294
    5TFNC5EC7NX17B277
    5TFNC5EC7NX21B339

    Gas only VINs
    5TFNA5DB1NX041831
    5TFJA5DB8NX043025
    5TFNA5DB1NX043580
    5TFNA5DBXNX038300

How can I be sure just by looking at the VIN that it's a hybrid?
    5th character=C? 7th=E? 8th=C?

Dunno if this helps but the hybrid I've been allocated has a "C" on the 5th character and a "B" on the 8th.

found this with a google search on one of the dealer sites:
You can search online for a Toyota VIN lookup tool, but you can also find out something about your vehicle by looking at the VIN with this key. Here’s what you can tell from each character.

    • 1st digit: Country of Manufacture
    • 2nd and 3rd digits: Manufacturer
    • 4th – 8th digits: Vehicle Brand, Engine Size, and Type
    • 9th digit: Security Code
    • 10th digit: Model Year
    • 11th digit: Plant of Assembly
    • 12th – 17th digits: Serial Number

    Thanks for that.
By process of elimination, your VIN appears to point to the 5th character = C as hybrid indicator, as your 7th and 8th characters do not match any of the hybrid samples I posted.

Thanks, but a definitive engine size and type character breakdown is what I seek.

I have hybrid and my 5th character is a C also. Also has B for 8th character which shows to be type.
