I have a 2002 Tundra 4.7 that is now noticeably vibrating when stopped in drive or reverse, but not in park or neutral. There is no vibration when driving.

My friend thinks it is a ignition issue and could be a simple fix, but thought I would get another opinion on here. Thanks!

While in park and even more so in neutral, if it shakes in Dr or Rev, my first thought would be motor mounts.

This was my 1st thought also. Check engine and tranny mounts to make sure they're not blown out.

Think about this from a logical perspective, OP. What are the two things that cause vibration on your vehicle? Engine and Driveline (latter being driveshafts and axles, stuff attached to it). Which of those is actively making movements and vibrations when stationary? Engine. What shields the vehicle from vibrations caused by the engine? The rubber (or sometimes poly) bushings on the engine and tranny mounts.

I'd specifically confirm the mounts are secure to the frame first, block side after just to be sure. Check the tranny mount just the same.

I dunno where your friend gets "ignition problem", maybe they're thinking fire/misfire condition? But if idle is normal RPM and it only happens when stationary, I'm looking at the mounts.

Not knowing mileage hurts here. Obviously bushings on a 100k mile truck that was mostly smooth-road miles are going to be radically different from a non-paved-road driving 300k mile truck.

Ignition issue should throw a code for cylinder misfire. Motor mounts is a good theory. We’ve had some FGTs with cracked flex plates. Also suspicious for torque converter. If it’s 2wd, trans Mount has been an issue for some. Loose bolts causing a knocking sound, haven’t heard anyone describe vibes from those. Good luck OP
