Vibration after installing ecgs

    I installed the ECGS bushing on my Tundra because I noticed the needle bearing was shot when I was replacing the axel shaft. I also replaced the axel shaft on the passenger side as well. After taking it for my first test drive after the ecgs bushing install, I have vibration or humming sounds when I get to speeds of around 55 that were not present before the ECGS bushing. I have not had an alignment yet, could this be the cause? Or what should be my first fix?

    What was wrong with the CV that caused you to replace it? What did you replace it with?

    Both boots had major tears and I wanted to replace the axel's with "extended travel" ones because the truck is lifted.

    You sure that you got the bushing in the right spot? Too shallow or too deep and it could be rubbing on the spider gear or the cv. This would account for noise but not vibration

    My guess is the new cvs have a balance tissue or too much slop in joint. Where did the cvs come from?

    As far as I know I installed it correctly. I put the bushing in the exact spot that the needle bearing was. In my mind, if it was "rubbing" it would have been a constant sound, not something that occurred at higher speed. The following day I took it for another drive and had it up to 75mph and didn't hear the humming or vibration. I talked to a guy who thought that it could be possible that the new bushing needed some time to "seat" to the axel shaft because of the tighter tolerance. I'm hoping that is all it was. I haven't had a lot of time to drive it since that second ride so I'm crossing my fingers.

    Can you tell which side the vibration is on? If you can, you might swap the CVs from side to side to see if the vibration follows (I realize that is a lot of work). After market CVs seem to be hit and miss... I've had issues with them.

    I'm not a mechanic, but in my experience of changing out both axels on my truck, I don't believe they would be interchangeable.

    They are. Toyota uses a stub shaft output on the passenger side to make up the difference in length. The CVs are the same for both sides.

    Nothing really changed that would need an alignment. I’d make sure stubs were fully seated, check torque on the axle nut, and make sure wheel lugs are seated and torqued properly

    I replaced the bearing last week with ecgs bushing and it has been noise free. I haven't heard oem axles being unbalanced.

    You all are so appreciated!! I took the truck for another drive this morning. I had no repeat issues from that initial test spin of humming and vibration. At this point I'm inclined to deduce that there was added pressure on the new bushing at the initial higher speed that has lessened as the bushing and axel integrated.

    I'm still considering a realignment, although I have the same thought process as FrenchyToast, that nothing I did should have altered the alignment. Also, liked his advice to check the torque settings on the lug nuts, and axel nuts!
