    Hello to all,

Just wanted to check w all 2024 tundra owners if the very bottom of your trucks paint (right above the footstep rails) is very blotched or rough? Its hard to see, but if you run your hand across it, it almost seems like you are trying to read braille.

I've enclosed two pictures that i took in my garage w door shut. There's no sun now so the outside would not enhance the clarity.

    Thabk you and pls advise,
    tstex

pls note, i forgot how to upload a pic. I do not see any pic uploads to paper clip icons. Can someone pls direct me on how to add pictures? Thank you very much !

    Thanks Eddie.

What is the design feature of what appears to be highly blemished paint? What purpose is very rough and almost pitted paint offer as value add to the customer?

i pulled this off a search for 2024 Tundra is the lower paint defective?

According to reports from owners and some automotive news sources, there are concerns about the paint quality on the 2024 Toyota Tundra, particularly regarding potential issues with paint peeling, especially on certain white paint colors, which could indicate a manufacturing defect in the paint application on some vehicles; however, not all Tundras are experiencing this problem and it's important to inspect individual vehicles before purchase.
    Key points to consider:
    • Paint peeling reports:
Some owners have reported issues with paint peeling on their 2024 Tundras, particularly on white paint options, which could be due to a manufacturing defect in the paint layers.
    • Toyota's history with paint issues:
Toyota has previously acknowledged paint peeling issues on certain vehicles and has offered warranty coverage for repairs in such cases.
    • Individual vehicle inspection:
If you are considering buying a 2024 Tundra, it's crucial to thoroughly inspect the paint job for any signs of imperfections or potential issues.

Youre asking the wrong person. Contact toyota and ask them why. Doubt they would do this w/o a good reason. I havent seen anyone complain about that part of the paint peeling or anything.

Thx boulder...most chipping occurs up front or on the hood. I've noticed a plastic thin type cover for that. None of the high risk areas has this rough paint texture. Is it only on the lower part of the truck? I would not have even noticed it if i didn't wash and dry the exterior.

Will do. I am having all my front brakes replaced due to that defect in brake and rotor materials. I will ask them then.

It's chip/stone guard. It's been on the bottom of Tundras, 4Runners and Tacomas for years. Hell, GM uses it to according to a quick bit of google.

Do you have pics of yours?

Pic of it on a red truck. If it looks like this then it's normal.

    14314-e1ac8ee82c97d4c0f00c0341dc611fad_e17518ec0886b6e863d688d84dcf261567970702.jpg

That AI is conflating things. Yes, Toyota has had peeling paint issues, but that was (exclusively?) with white paint. It was also not only on the bottom, but all over. Never use the AI overviews, because the AI isn't smart enough to filter out bogus info and summarizes everything it finds in a search.

Fair enough. The jury seems to be solid that this is a normal "feature".

Thank you all very much for your time & feedback, greatly appreciated.

One more vote for 'its the factory stone/chip guard and is completely normal'. It is more obvious on some trucks/colors.

your good dude, its orange peel as we call it, totally normal and on every toyota truck Ive owned (which is a lot)

it actually does a pretty damn good job keeping the chips away

I think the official name is "stone guard".

And as stated, Toyota and other manufactures have been using it for years.

Its stone guard and its on my 2023 Pro. It might be more common on Japanese vehicles as my 2006 S2000 also has it.

Yep, that's intentional. Usually called Chip Guard coating and is used on the rocker panels and low areas where it isn't very visible. It works for chips and abrasions. As mentioned, not to be confused with the PPF on the hood which is a sheet that is like a clear wrap. PPF has come a long, long way recently. Very durable and the expensive versions are almost unrecognizable. I[ve got a Porsche that is about 2/3 PPF and you can't see it from more than 3' away. $'s to have a large area covered.
    Enjoy your truck.

Thank you guys for the proper terminology of StoneGuard & PFF. Appreciate it. Hopefully it will protect against stones and similar.

I have the entire front end (fenders, hood, front colored parts and headlight) and all the lower portions on the side, all the way back and around to the chrome on the rear bumper, and the rear fender flares wrapped in ppf. I also had them do the door handle cups. 12 year warranty and it cleans like a breeze. When I install painted mirror caps I will have them covered as well.
