While at the deer lease, the ventswitch stopped working and vents only to dash defrost. No matter what location the switch is in, it only blows air through the defrost vent.
Is this a simple fix? Over looked fuse or connector? My recent luck tells me I'm gonna have to pull the entire dash or take it to the dealer.
Anyone have this happen before? All help would be greatly appreciated....

    Thanks, I'm a new member.

Welcome! Sounds like you have problems with the blend doors. I’m in the same boat. Just too lazy to take apart the dash to see which parts need to be replaced.

I think my hvac controls are aren’t working properly either or blend door, when change the direction (no duel climate controls) of the air from forward facing to floor only it still blows air from both directions regardless also with changing to defrost kind of frustrating when you don’t want hot air blowing in you face :censored::frusty:

Do you have the dual control system (automatic, with the little LCD screen)?

If so, when you start the truck up, does it take 20 or so seconds to register anything on the screen?

I ask because mine did this; it took a hell of a long time to find. Ended up being a solenoid something or other. If need be I can find out the exact part.

That's what I'm thinking. Reeeally weird. Doesn't seem to be a common problem.

My servo gear is for sure broken now. A few years back the AC stopped blowing out the vents and air only came out of the defrost. A few weeks ago I heard it break as I was switching from defrost to AC. My warranty just ended 600 miles ago . I still took it to the dealership and they wanted to charge me at least 4 hours to figure out the problem. So I've decided to try and fix this myself. Going to use the video below and hopefully I can get it done without removing the entire dash. Wish me luck!!

Out of curiosity did yours break during summer or winter? Wondering if the cold has something to do with make the plastic gears more susceptible to breaking.

Mine just started doing this also. 2018 Limited with lcd screen. Only blows out of defrost. For a few months before it started doing this, I could hear a loud click noise from under the dash when I switched air modes.
Did anyone ever figure out the part number or how to fix this?

    thanks!

    Function before sparkle.
If it's the blend doors, the entire dash usually needs to come off. I had mine done under warranty and it took the dealer 2 days. Only tackle this job if you feel comfortable with removing it all.

If you search "blend door" you will find posts like this:

    TRY THIS FIRST:

    1. With the truck running, turn the controls to defrost.
    2. Turn the truck off. Leave the controls on defrost
    3. Start the truck (should still be on defrost). Now try and turn it to vent or feet.

The problem occurs when you turn the truck off with the controls on defrost, then before starting the truck the next time you move the control off of defrost (then start the truck). The controls stay frozen in defrost mode.

If it is not this, the bend door/servo issue.

Ugg....the click or squeek is what mine did before the blend door shaft snapped.

If you need help removing/installing/troubleshooting the servo assembly, let me know. I just did something similar and have it down to 30 mins for the servos.

    Some troubleshooting I suggest:

-pin-point where the clicking is coming from. there are servo motors on left and right side of center console (indicating motor/gear issue), center dash click indicates blend door issue
-run the air and switch from hot to cold, physically verify that the defrost is changing temps accordingly (blend door issue)
--make sure you check driver AND passenger side for even and correct temps
-plug in techstream to check codes
-run diagnostic from HVAC panel (hold "recirculation" and "AUTO" on startup, code numbers may flash on panel, HVAC will then run a test in every setting)
-get up under the driver side footwell and witness mark the servo motor centers, about 20-40 seconds after you shut the truck down they will run and you should see your witness marks turning (verify servo motors work)
-you can pull the servo assembly on driver side in about 30 mins with only removing the driver kick panel and lower airbag (you will drill a small hole in frame rail to access one screw)

Getting the servos replaced and back on is no big deal, as long as you know some tricks. Happy to help with anything I can.
