I-70 westbound in St. Charles County was closed a couple weeks ago on my way into work, thank God I was eastbound toward St. Louis. But anyway I did a search on the MHP crash report site and downloaded the report, minor injuries and a fatality to the occupants of one vehicle while the other was an 18 wheeler. Read the description of the accident, it'll probably take a couple times to get the full picture.

Looks like the driver of the vehicle that was speeding and caused the accident is the one who died. It’s always bad when anyone dies, but even worse when it was the innocent people. I hate reading about accidents like a dwi where the drunk driver walked away and the other people died.

It's sad when natural selection has to involve innocents.

I'm wondering if the truck was a car carrier. How did he get airborne and hit the roof of the truck?:monocle:

Sucks when the person that causes the accident lives and the innocent die.

Maybe the passenger was an idiot and yanked the wheel. My brother's first WRX rolled 4 or 5 times when his idiot passenger did that.

But how did it get 12' up in the air? It had to drive up onto something.

Not sure. My only point was that there aren't enough details in the report to be "glad" about who survived or didn't.

Only way I can imagine is that the Kenworth was bobtailing (without a trailer). Car hit rolling left rear tire of Kenworth..... up and over.

It does say that the driver lived and the passenger died......which really sucks if the driver was driving like a idiot.

Given the impact that's possible. Honestly, might not have event had to be bobtail. The sidewall of the tire could toss it up pretty solidly. Idiot with a trailer did that to a truck at work. He passed our truck, and then cut in front like he didn't have a trailer on. The steer tire threw his trailer about 8 feet up in the air just through the rotation of the tire. I imagine the actual drive tires would be capable of tossing a car pretty easily.

This is true. Passenger may have elected not to wear a seatbelt, may have grabbed the wheel thinking they were helping, etc. but it was likely the driver being an idiot.

Chevy Cruze likely didn't land on top of the Kenworth cab (that's how I first read it), but a glancing blow on the side of roof above the driver's door. I bet the passenger was asleep. Could well have unhooked his seatbelt to recline.

I have always taken some sort of sick pride in the low quality of driving skills displayed here in the STL area and this sadly is just one more example.
And it is certainly not getting any better either.

This one happened Yesterday in the City when the house must have snuck up on the driver and started the whole thing?
    Luckily no one died.
You need to read the whole thing to truly appreciate the entire beauty of the event too.

I got the impression the car was going much much faster than the K Whopper. I assumed that was speeding/reckless driving but I suppose the truck could have been going slow up a hill or something.

    Some.
Stupidity and/or alcohol. My worthless cousin (pissed me off when he went awol from the Hawaii National Guard while I was deployed to Iraq) was dui and crashed through a trailer park hitting cops and medics that were on another call. Now, he is doing 5 years with another 15 suspended.
