    Hello yet again,

I apologize in advance for all the questions. I am also looking at used in the local area. I am looking at 2 specific tundras...

    2018 sr5 CM offroad
    25k miles
    $35,595

    2016 sr5 CM offroad
    CPO
    30k miles
    26.4 gal tank unfortunately
    $33,594

Originally I was looking at a 2020 TRD sport for 46k and to trade in my 2017 taco. They valued my taco 6k positive equity trade in. With this 2016, what do you think is a fair price including my trade in and the 6k they already valued? Or should this adjust given that the total adjusted? Worth buying used? Can you always trust dealerships when buying used?I've never bought a used vehicle from a dealer before.

If you are buying from a dealer, make sure the truck is a Toyota CPO. Certified pre-owned trucks sold by Toyota dealers come with a nice warranty.

I would still pull a Carfax report, and have a 3rd party inspect the vehicle before buying it.

In that case I can’t help you ;)

    Get a car fax
Get it checked out by a competent mechanic

Dealers typically get stuff from the auctions so they don’t know what they have either half the time.

I thought CC was standard on these trucks.

This ^^^^. I always buy used, but usually not from a dealer just because their price is always going to be higher than buying from a private seller.

I bought my 2012 DC 4x4 TRD package and tow package. The 4.6l at 60,000 miles used from a dealer earlier this year. I usually buy used from a private seller. This was my first used car dealer experience. I got the truck for $23,000. The only reason I went for it was because it was exactly what I was looking for and it looked decent as far as any rust on frame. And it’s Toyota reliable. If it wasn’t a Toyota I probably would have walked away. Good luck. Just if you pick dealer route make sure you know what you’re getting.

The 2016 offroad is what I'm looking for as well. Well minus the chrome. I can live with that for the price. I'm also trading in my 2017 tacoma which they already valued 6k positive equity for trade in when I was looking at a 2020 tundra sport. Given that, what do you think is a good deal for the 2016 with my trade in? And the 2016 is a CPO

The 2018 still has some warranty left. The 2016 might have a little but not as much.

If the warranties are fairly comparable and neither truck looks abused, I’d say get the newer model. It has the bigger tank too. But it has the TSS which some people don’t like.

Check both over real good for cam tower leak and differential leaks. Are they both completely stock? No owner mods?

I think the 2016 for 30,000 would be awesome deal. The selling price is the same around where I’m at it seems. And the 2016 looks to be really low mileage. And you’re getting cpo warranty too. I think that’s a pretty safe deal. My opinion though, you do what’s best for you though.

No mods according to the pics. I'm going in today to look at them in person. 2018 has a bull bar which I would like to personally rip off myself lol.

This is what I'm leaning towards. Low miles for sure. My 2017 taco that I have now that im going to trade in has 27k

I'll definitely be back on later today after I get numbers and specifics to consult you all and get thoughts and opinions. Never bought used from a deale. Always private.

2016 is $2k less, but it’ll also be less if you go to trade it in a few years from now. $2k isn’t a huge difference.

True. Are you recommending the 2018? The only reason I'm leaning towards the 2016 is low miles, bed spray liner, CPO?

I’d lean towards the 2018, but that would be after you sit in them. Maybe one has a weird smell or something. Or maybe when you see them in person you might really like one over the other. My wife would be the one to make the decision for me, but her decision would probably be to not get either and spend the money on furniture.

Mileage difference isn’t that great, only 5000.

I think you have more negotiating power on the older model. The dealer will be happy to get rid of the harder to sell one first just due to age. And low miles on an older vehicle is most likely not hard driven miles.

Right. I'll just have to wait and see. Haha! I'm with you on that brother. You dont think the CPO is worth it on its own?

I don’t know much about CPO warranties. It’s been awhile since I bought used. Is it only at that dealer? Or any Toyota place? Is it bumper to bumper?

When negotiating price on a used vehicle: always work up from NADA trade-in value, not down from their asking price. And remember that they must make a profit.

I purchased my 2002 SR5 as a CPO truck back in 2003 when it had 17k, it has been my ultra reliable dedicated work truck ever since.
