Howdy, had a 2017 I traded for a Ford, BIG MISTAKE.... I have owned nothing but toyotas until I bought thr Ford, I will stick with Toyota moving forward.

Question, I did a little digging, but hard to come to an overall consesus, is it a bad idea to buy a 2022 model? I know they have had their issues, but it is a Toyota. I found a 2022 4x4 with 25K for a really good price.

    Thanks in advance.

IMO, I think you would be happier with another 2.5 gen.

I'd prefer the 5-6 mpg increase. My 2022 with a light foot was getting around 13-13.5 mpg.

I love my '22 and aside from a couple of recalls have had NO issues at all. It is a fantastic upgrade from the 2.5 gen (I also had a 2017) and I would never think about going back.

I purchased a 2022 with 18K miles about a month ago, and have had ZERO regrets. No issues to note. I did get the extended warranty, as any fix these days will pay for the warranty in one trip.

How much could you save by getting an older generation? If you save 5,000 (or more) you would never be able to recoup that much in fuel savings even if you could consistently get 24mpg with a 3rd gen. If you just like the 3rd gen more, then that's a different story.

Love my 22. I've had no major issues. Biggest problem was one of the seat buttons stopped working but Toyota replaced it under warranty. I'm getting 18-19 MPG in hilly New Hampshire.

With it being a 1st model year of a complete redesign you have 2 outcomes with this truck:

1.) it wasn’t what the previous owner wanted and it just didn’t work out. They unloaded it and went another direction.

2.) it was one of the new gen’s plagued with bugs and problems and the previous owner unloaded it for cheap to clear his/her headache.

Following the old adage of you get what you pay for…. I know where my luck with “a really great price” ends up. YMMV

Here were my checklist items before purchasing my truck.
    • No transmission clunk when starting the engine
    • No brake squeal, reverse or forward
    • No transmission ticking noise in Drive/Neutral/Park while vehicle is stationary
    • Should only have minimal interior door creak, if any
    • Wind noise at 60+ mph should be at acceptable levels (test against headwind, tailwind and crosswind)
    • No interior door rattle from the speaker
    • Window seals should not be deformed
    • No suspension squeak when pushing down on the tailgate
    • Spray-on bedliner is not peeling, if equipped
    • if equipped with tri-fold tonneau, ask for it to be removed and cost to be deducted from selling price. There is a TSB item on these covers.
For a used vehicle, make sure the vehicle is accident-free, make sure all maintenance items were completed on schedule, and ask to see any repair history.

Also make sure all TSB fixes have been applied.

I hope this info helps you.

Drove my 22 SR5 for a year and traded it in just like new imo. Just wanted more options out of the model. Never had any issues with the 22 besides the brake thing

Haha, they are certainly not giving it away, but it is a few thousand cheaper than what other comparable trucks are selling for.. And it does have some warranty left, so there's that.

I think you're safe, but I would recommend snagging the extended warranty. There's a few hookups here on the forum for extended warranty pricing. You might search for them and cross-shop before you pull the trigger on something at the dealership.

I'm proud of my 3rd Gen and I love it. However, I would just cover my bases. That's me though.

    How much they asking?
I'd sell my loaded with options 22 SR5 double cab TRD Off-road for 54k. Has 2900 trouble free miles and a platinum extended warranty and maintenance plan.

    Double cab or crew cab?

Why are you looking to offload it so quickly?

It's a double cab 6.5 ft bed. I've owned it exactly 1 year this month with zero complaints. Problem is I don't drive it enough to justify the monthly payment.
