Upper Windshield Noise

I have been having a Upper Windshield snapping noise that is driving me crazy. Every time you go over a bump or slight imperfection in the road it snaps. I have driven with family members to isolate noise and it seems to be coming from upper passenger windshield. What solutions could there be? i mean i have seen on this forum the Taping of the lower cowel, that holds the wipers, but my noise is coming from top of windshield.

I have even found a PDF on this forum where 2008 models and similar have a TSB fix for this. No idea if there is a fix for 2014 and later though.

 

For some reason I can not get your link to open up. That being said it sounds like the plastic windshield line up pin. It’s a straight forward fix. Remove the A-pillar trim, remove the sun visors and center headliner console. Drop the front of the headliner down.
Along the top of the windshield and the pinch weld for the roof you will see a small plastic clip sticking through the pinch weld. Simply break it off, it serves no purpose anymore. The line up pin is for when the new glass is installed, keeps the windshield from sliding down while the window urethane sets up.

 

You think the 2008 fix will apply to my truck as well? i am so tempted to fix it myself. What do you use to cut excess plastic on the clips? Thank you Omohundro.

 

I don’t know what the 2008 fix is, I can’t open the link. I used a pair of small needle nose pliers.

 

I got the link open, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. How did you find that, I fought this problem for a year. I almost had the entire dash out of my 16.
You can do the repair if you have any mechanical abilities at all, it’s really not a big deal.

 

So i guess you had the same problem. Did the Headliner give you any problems? did you put it back in without bending it?? I am scared to pull it down. As for the PDF, it is a Toyota Service Bulletin for 2008 and older tundra's. I got it at either this sight or another Tundra forum.

Been about 2 years since I did it so little rusty. You don’t have to pull the liner down very far, just a few inches. If you’re not comfortable doing it find a local body shop or maybe a glass company and talk with them about it. I’m sure someone will help you out.
