So I ordered the part and clamps. I was going to do it myself but since im getting an oil change I figured I would ask how much extra it would cost to have them do it. They quoted me at $110 saying it would take an hour to bleed the system so there’s no air pockets. I declined.

my question is this necessary and if so how do you do that? I thought all I had to do was open the drain cock to remove maybe a half gallon. Remove and replace upper hose. Top off coolant and run engine. Top off again.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I did this a couple years back, while I cleaned out my radiator fins (due to dirt/mud build up).
If memory serves, I removed the battery, which gave me extra space to work.
Undo the hose at the top. Drain what’s in it, or however much comes out.
remove the bottom clamp/hose. Replace the hose, clamp bottom. Refill in the hose, the fluid that you drained (as much as you can). Reattach top hose/clamp. Top off as needed.
    Good luck!

I went in for an alignment on my truck today. And got this estimate,
    upload_2025-4-28_12-52-22.png
Remove and Replace Radiator Hose = $390.53. I declined all of it! I have an air filter sitting in my garage. I can do the oil change at home lol. The only thing I went in for was alignment and their so called curtesy evaluation came down to this. Their alignment however was 129 which was ok. Whats up with these shops now adays. Breaking someones bank :S

My dad went in a week or two ago to get some new tires mounted and balanced on his 4runner, they did one of those fucked up inspections and one of the things they dinged him for were "shocks in poor condition, needs replacement" and he has 4 month old brand new Dobinsons on it. The shop thought brand new shocks should've been replaced with some shit $300 monroe specials. I wouldn't trust shit 90% of shops say, unless it's some small mom and pop place where they're not pushing for you to fix anything.

There's a shop in town I'm friends with and occasionally swing by and get lunch with, they have customers come in and they'll tell them how a component is worn out or leaking and it doesn't need to be fixed but keep an eye on it and it probably has a few months or a year of life left. No quoting or pushing for them to do anything, just a hey we noticed this was wrong while fixing something else and here's a heads up. That's the only kind of place I would trust.

Shit is definitely getting crazier. Auto shops are ripping people off. That sucks, I hope you got those dobinsons back. They sent me back home in the hopes Ill leave my truck there. While going back, "we can get you a ride back home" and now they arent entertaining the request anymore. lol petty mofos!
