I own a 2021 tundra platinum crewmax. It has 8,018 miles on it.

I drove it 2 days ago and went to drive it this morning. I backed to hook a trailer up and when I got out of the truck I instantly smelled a strong fuel smell. I looked under the truck and fuel was pouring from the tank area on to the ground. I shut the truck off and the flow instantly slowed until it stopped.

Has anyone encountered anything like this before ? I am going to crawl under it tomorrow after it has sat and check the status of all lines. Doesn’t appear that any of the lines had been cut.

is it possible that a fuel line has become disconnected? Or does this sound like a bigger issue?

    thanks for the help.

Nope, haven't heard of this before. But that doesn't matter, don't bother screwing with it, you are under warranty. Let the dealer deal with it.

To my knowledge that's not a problem that has been discussed here on the forum before. Maybe just a loose line, or even some rodent damage. Let us know what you find.

Right I plan on doing that, I got ran around the ringer on getting a tow truck to my house with Toyota Roadside today to get it taken to the dealer which is about 25 miles north of me. Long story short they told me to front the money for the tow and I will be reimbursed. I know how that typically works.

If I’m lucky enough to discover it’s just a line that has disconnected I’ll definitely be driving it up there to have it looked at. This is literal the first issue I’ve ever had with any of my Toyotas just kind of a bummer.

Definitely a bummer, but hopefully a quick fix. Just remember that if they have to keep it overnight (parts, etc) you get a free rental, some dealers tend to "forget" that.

A while back I saw a post where rodents chewed through something on top of the tank

Are you sure some methhead did not drill a hole some where in your gas tank? It has happened before.

yeah I'm betting someone had an attempt at the gas tank for theft. This happened to my inlaws and their Tahoe about 4 months ago.

Tundras are a gold mine apparently: 38 gallons of gasoline and 4 catalytic converters.

    Update:

truck was dropped off at the dealer.
I received a call back this morning saying the fuel lines had rodent damage. Was also informed that this is not covered under the factory warrant because it is not a factory defect.

I have 2 more vehicles that are parked outside in the same area and have never had issues. Anyone else think something sounds funny with this? I understand their reasoning for it not being covered but I’m wondering what else could be done.

the truck has 8,018 miles on it and I literally drove it 2 days prior to the issue with no issues.

Quote to change the lines was 500 bucks.

Unfortunately, this is not surprising to me. I keep my truck outside and am always worried about this. I once found a dead rat in the engine compartment of my last truck.

You can check with your homeowner's insurance to see if it's covered.

I read somewhere that Toyota uses a lot of soy based parts so animals like to chew on it. That could be why the tundra was chewed on but not your other cars.

Does this appear to be rodent chewed or cut?

Kind of grainy and is hard to tell but I’m leaning towards cut…

Not rodent. My parents had a '14 Focus hybrid, the battery died at 4x,xxx well inside warranty, Ford tried to claim rodent damage, it took threatening lawsuit to get it fixed. (there was no rodent damage)
